Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Very nice porter. This was much better on tap than in the bottle. Nice beige head. This beer had more carbonation than most porters which was great by my accounts. Excellent flavor....sweetness, fruits. Went down smooth without a wince. RERATE: A New Year’s ’03 treat! This beer reminds me of talking to that hooker in Vegas for some reason. Anyways, I cant get over how great this beer pours....the way the thick head rushes to the top while the dark liquid cascades down through the head like water through a rocky stream. This run had notes of whiskey in the nose which I didnt catch last time. A very full and creamy brew which will always be welcome in my fridge.

Malty toasted nose. Deep black hue with a small fast diminishing light brown head. Has a slightly earthy hoppy taste with a chocolate and coffee after taste. This is a great full bodied and complex beer that is simply superb.

Classic looking porter with a nice large soapy head. Aroma is nice and malty with plenty of roastiness. This beer feels delightfully creamy and thick in the mouth. It is as much "oatmeal stout light" as it is a porter. Those lines are blurred here indicating a substantial porter. Many of this style offer muted flavors but Anchor’s is quite robust. Flavors are coffee, dark fruit, dark chocolate and sweet malt. A great beer! I want another one.

Bottle (650ml). Pours almost black, incredibly lively with a big light brown foamy-creamy head. Does the "guiness pour" settle-out thing wonderfully - head lasts forever, rocks out and leaves a half-decent lacing - top marks. Aroma is roast malt, somewhat vinous, stewed prunes and apple cores, slight hops, and tasty coffee and bittersweet chocolate notes as well - quite darkly fruit sweet on the nose. Flavour is like heaven’s own semisweet belgian chocolate with nuts and raisins bar - with dark roast malt, sourish wine overtones, other steeped fruits, coffee and cream. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, only lightly carbonated. This is one of the nicest porters I’ve ever had. Terrific blend of bitterness (coffee, chocolate, touch of hops), sweetness (fruit, malt and chocolate) with enough tartness to keep it all together.

Lovely roasted aroma with hints of chocolate. Very dark brown beer with a lasting tan head. Fills the mouth nicely - almost creamlike and has powerful flavour of chocolate, coffee and dried fruit. Long pleasant aftertaste.

One pint, 6 fluid oz brown bottle purchased from Whole Foods, Deerfield, IL. Black hued porter having a long-lasting creamy tan head with good lacing. Soft carbonation. Lush chocolate and roasted coffee aromas. Medium bodied with creamy smooth texture having complex vanilla, chocolate milk, and coffee flavors. Finishes dry with light lingering bitterness. Mouth coating oiliness. A very delicious delightful porter, one of my favorite ones.

12 oz Bottle poured into a Pint Glass. Black with a tanish head. Roasted coffee flavors with a bit of a smokey taste. Smooth, creamy and delightful. This is the porter that has taken me to the dark side.
