Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

bottled and on tap at the brewery: dark as night when poured with a tan creamy loose head. some slight hop nose with toffee, toased aroma. taste has the choc, burnt character with a burst of hops as well. this is a top notch porter and one i think of for a good standard in the class. i dont drink much of this but i should drink more...

This pours a near black that is a bit red around the edges. The head is tan and laces the glass perfectly. The nose is light, but a bit floral, plumb-ish, and also roasty. Oh my, this is a pretty amazing brew. The initial taste is a light floral sweetness with perhaps a hint of bubblegum sweetness or breadiness. Following is a dark chocolatly oiliness and fruitiness in the middle; the dark roasted hops are the kicker in the end. This porter has a near perfect mouthfeel and palate. It is actually a bit subtle in some ways.

Good roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Gret looking brew. Very dark amber color with a thick rocky tan head. Starts kind of buttery feeling with a slightly sweet hop taste that smoothly moves into a nice mocha finish. Very chocolatey. Great porter.

Delightful porter. Rich backbone malt with excellent lace on tap. Hop character strong, but not overpowering. Savory at room temperature.

Pours deep purple/black. Not the head I expected. Faint subtle aromas of carmel, malt, licorice and sweet coffee. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy. Very good bitter finish.

Very dark brown/black pour supporting a creamy tan head with excellent lacing. Aroma of chocolate, espresso, vanilla and roasted malt. Just the right mouthfeel for a porter - silky and just slightly syrupy. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, some spice with just the mellowest hoppy backbone. Finishes with a hint of sweetness and smoke. Another brewer calls their porter "Perfect" but this one hits that mark dead on.

Creamy head. Malty aroma. Fantastic brew! Definitely goes into the regular rotation. Doesn’t taste nearly as dark as it pours. Nice roasty but not smoky flavors; hope that make sense? Extremely smooth & drinkable. Some fruity flavors.

This looks like a fancy coffee drink you would get at a coffee shop in an isolated town. The white head looks very creamy like Capuccino making the appearance very attractive. The aroma has a lot of banana in it mixed with chocolate, caramel and mocha and licorice. The malts have that recognizable Anchor malts which seem to work better in the bottle then on draft. The banana, chocolate and caramel trio come together very well resulting in a session beer/dessert beer. This was very good.
