Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

12oz bottle. Deep dark body with creamy foam. Smells of coffee and roasted cerals with some caramel. Smooth chocolatey mouthfeel with roasted malt, coffee and a bit of vanilla. Great beer!

Dark pour with a thick tan head. Big aroma of banana bread, coffee, chocolate, malt. Plenty of all of that in the flavor, plus a spicy peppery note and some hoppy bitterness at the end. Good complexity, and great balance. Really good. I loved it.

Bottle drank at the Greenwich Union pub, Greenwich. Pours black with a light brown head. Good carbonation. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, raisins. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, raisins, vanilla. Very nice mouthfeel. Finishes sweet and hoppy. One of the best American porters.

Bottle. Nice lacy tan head. Hold it to the light and it blocks the sun. Toasty malt and a hint of red wine in the aroma. Luxurious creamy mouthfeel. Taste of coffee and chocolate. I really like this beer.

Dark black pour with a thinning tan head. Aroma is malty sweet with hints of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is strong with malt, coffee and chocolate. Finishes extremely smooth and soft with a lingering sweetness. A favorite porter.

I am a definite fan of Anchor. This porter was sweet and thick, though not syrupy, and it was balanced quite nicely with enough hops to be sensible. This little bottle entertains from the moment you pick it up off the shelf, throughout the pour of its sensuous black contents to the finish of this pleasantly thick beer down your throat. Great beer.

Has a bready malt aroma with florals. Pure black color with a hint of an amber hue, did not notice any sediment, and too difficult to se any action. Sweet roasted malt taste, almost burnt, and has multi floral hops of pine with a butter background. Full bodied, resinous, bready, slightly buttery, with a soft carbonation. Very good session Porter with lots of hop florals, minimal bitterness, and a well balanced sweetness of malts.

I really enjoyed this beer. Very dark, very stout with tastes of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Just don’t drink too many of them!
