Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Delicious aroma is roasted and burnt malt with syrup, coffee, chocolate and hops... "a bit like Asam Bock" first came into my mind :) Very enjoyable.

Pours the darkest of browns; almost black with a frothy, tan, two-finger head that lingers. Aroma is of sweetness, roast, and maltiness. Perfect mouthfeel. Nice and roasty, but does not accumulate on the palate like many porters. Nice molasses, fig, raisin, and roast taste. Very tasty, a world class porter.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours pure black with a ruby tinge, huge frothy caramel head, leaving tonnes on lacing. Aroma is pure roasted malt. Flavour is again, sweet roasted malt, hint of raisin. Awesome beer! Great porter!

12oz bottle from The Party Source. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Incredibly malty aroma with vanilla and some roastiness. Flavor is of malt, a bit of alcohol, vanilla, chocolate and coffee in the finish. Very good.

Bottle.Pours a very dark brown with an average light brown head . Aroma is roasty, and sweet.Flavor is sweet caramel and banana with hints of molasses and caramel. The finish is dry and quite bitter. The body feels pretty full, sticky mouthfeel would have liked a little more carbonation. A very good porter that I will buy again for sure.

This is one of the best and most balanced porters out there, and have found very few porters that lives up to this one. So I consider this one as a standard bearer. Black body with brooding head and nice sticky lacing. Aromas of anice, chocolate and coffee, just the right amount of each. Flavors are the same and in balance with each other, nice medium to full body and washes down with some bitterness... it’s an amazing porter and very low alchohol presence. Definately, one of the best out there.

Thick and puffy tan head, like an ice cream float. Dark dark brown. No shine, no transparency. Head sticks around. Sweet smells of burnt brown sugar. Not saccharine. Actually has the aroma of a Scotch ale. Very sugary, sweet carmelized malts. Brown sugary and toffee. Just a bit smoky. The roasted bits are overpowered by the sweet. Toffee, caramel; a hint of decaf at the finish. Feels thick and chewy. If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was a Scotch ale. Really somethin’.

I really enjoyed this beer. Very dark, very stout with tastes of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Just don’t drink too many of them!
