Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Wow. This porter is really good. Very dark, almost black pour. Nice brown head and a TON of flavor. Coffee at the beginning with chocolate. I really enjoyed this one.

Beautiful beer. 3+ finger head; dark tan & very lasting; creamy. Pretty dark. Very nice lacing. Aroma: banana, and cherries; some crystal malts; strong caramel aroma; strong alcohol notes; also some nuttiness going along w/ the caramel. Pretty good body. Very complex finish with the roasted malts making a good showing, also some dry bitterness that comes out of nowhere, with the fruit notes lightly floating above them both. Alcohol still very much present considering the ABV. The malts aren’t like a stout, but this beer does seem to act like an imperial stout.

Bottle. Pours dark with a nice brown head. The taste is great; a nutty burnt malt with some hops. A great drink. Smooth and yet a good strong taste.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark dark brown/black with tan head that diminishes with noticable lacing. Aroma is of carmely and toasty malts with almost a metallic scent here and there. But wow, the taste is where its at. Im not generally a big porter fan but this blew me away. It has a very delicate and complex balance between toasted malt, bitter hops and the sweetness of the chocolate and coffee and even banana flavors. These all play off eachother and then it finishes oh so smooth with a very balanced bitterness. And to top all of this off, the mouthfeel is also great. Silky smooth without being too heavy and just the right touch of carbonation. A suprisingly drinkable porter. This is a wonderful beer, two thumbs up!

pours a rich black with a healthy cream colored head. Aroma is very nice, with roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and some smoky qualities as well. The flavor is excellent- a middle flavor characterized by cream and malt is juxtaposed with a delightfully bitter finish. Palate remains bitter, but in a quite pleasant manner. Phenomenal porter.

Draft sample offered after the Anchor Brewery tour. Pours a dark brown/black color with a foamy tan head. Great combination of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Nice amount of bitterness in the finish. Simply delicious. This is easily my favorite Anchor variety.
