Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Quite surprised by this one. Wasn’t expecting much and it turned out to be good. Color is a choclatey brown with creamy head. Aroma is coffee with chcolate hints. Taste like a blend of choclate and coffee.

Heavy hopped, heavy body, tan head. Hint of chocolate in the taste. Very flavorful. I must admit a surprise, since I wasn’t expecting a whole lot based on the steam beer by the same brewer (not a fan).

Picked up a single bottle from Cellars Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours an opaque dark brown, nearly black, brew with a thick large bubbly creamy tan head. Good lacing. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, black licorice, toasted malt, and plum. Taste is full body, lightly carbonated, creamy and smooth, with taste character of sweet licorice. Finish is smooth and a nice flowery hop aftertaste. Nicely done!

12 oz. bottle, pours a beautiful opaque black color with a small light tan head and a coating ring of lace. The scent was very chocolately, with hints of roasted barley, nuts and malt. The first sip provided a rush of malty flavor to the palate. A coating mouthfeel with some nice notes of chocolate cake, figs and barley present themselves. An excellent porter.

355 ml bottle. Black. Extremely big, creamy brown head. Coffee, chocolate, roasted/burnt malt, liqorice and some hoppy bitterness. Lovely «low-alcohol»-porter!

Pours black with just a hint of ruby highlights and a dense, creamy, tan head. On the nose are notes of: chocolate, molasses, banana bread, and roasted malt. Quite nice. Medium-bodied and oily while remaining lively on the tongue and concluding with a lightly bitter finish. The flavor is a blend of dark roasted malt, chocolate and molasses with a tight, tongue squeezingly bitter finish. A roasty molasses aftertaste lingers along with a nice hop bitterness. This is a very tasty beer.

First taste 6/8/07. Black as night. Has a very thin dark brown head, but it sticks around the whole time with excellent lacing. Aromas are sweet roasted malts, baker’s chocolate, and a hint of licorice. Didn’t pick up the licorice in the flavor, but the malt and chocolate are accompanied by coffee with cream and mild hops. Alcohol comes through a little on the smooth finish. Wow, this is an excellent porter. It might be my favorite to date!
