Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Dark dark brown in color, almost black (when held in direct light, there is a hint of a ruby color), with a medium dark tan head. Nice coffee-like aroma. Thick, satisfying taste, crisp and malty with a mildly hoppy finish. Good aftertaste. My only complaint is that the head wasn't thick enough. Besides that, wonderful porter.

For a porter (which I have discovered that I am NOT a fan of) this is an excellent beer. It is almost black- nice appearance- with tons of chocolate malt and coffee overtones. The alcohol is well disguised and the head looks great in the glass. This was not the beer for me as it was just a little overpowering in its' intensity of flavor, merely proving I'm not a porter fan.

Poured a frothy tan head. Candied Apples and Hops prevail in the Aroma. A very smooth flavour of Candied Yams, Raisins, and burnt Pie Crust. Smoky overtones Define this Beverage. An Excellent Potable, one that I will seek in the future. Bon Appetit.

Pours almost black with a thin tan head. Sweet, malty, slight chocolate aroma. UUmmmmm, This beer is really good. Creamy, heavy malt flavor with good bittersweet aftertaste. Being a porter lover, my rating my be slightly biased, but this is a great beer.

Very nice porter. Pour was typical of a stout with a head that was maybe subpar (but nice lacing). Aroma was raisin like with some light coffee. Flavor was somewhat sweet: maple, raisins, with a touch of coffee. Burnt flavors were nearly absent and the hops were only noticeable in the aftertaste (nicely done, since I don’t like strong hops in my stouts). Mouthfeel was heavy but smooth and enjoyable. I’ll come back to this one again.

Pours like a cola, medium tan head. Flavor hints at smoked malt but is really dominated by chocolate ( something more expected in a stout than a porter). Pretty darn drinkable...

[194-20070122] 12floz. Smells like a bit of beef was sitting in a sweet woody oak barrel deep in the thick of a forest. Dark brown black body with a big creamy medium-lasting light brown head. Lightly sweet chocolate malt flavour with an initial bitterness blending into a sweet aftertaste. Medium-full body, not too thick. Very well-blended flavour, texture and aroma, quite impressive.
