Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

All I can say is WOW! Best porter I ever drank, beats yuengling’s and stegmaier’s by a bit. Nice caramel and hops aroma, opaque black color, flavor rich in caramel, coffee, with a nice hint of hops, but more dominated by malt. Amazing brew, and better than the Anchor Steam.

I don’t know - I just love this beer ... West Coast homer perhaps? Have had it many times - from bottle, from tap - its my goto beer and always on hand at my home. $6.99 a sixer is a great price, IMHO, at Bevmo. Dark, deep appearance. Creamy, tan head. Medium to thick mothfeel. Complex taste of coffee, syrup and chocolate. Goes dowm smooth - nice aftertaste with hints of burnt coffee. Love it - good stuff!!

For me, it’s a tough choice between Anchor and Sierra Nevada for my favorite...you won’t go wrong with either. Beautiful color, and great head.

Very good porter. Slight coffee taste, but it tastes more like a beer than something from Starbucks, unlike some porters. Every tme I have it, it gets better and better.

Color is super dark, solid black with ruby red highlights near the bottom, head is cream colored, lumpy and creamy looking about a finger high. Curtains of tight lace. Smells faintly of citrusy sharp hop with a bit of some kind of tart raisin or plum fruity darkness. Its flavor is pretty dark and smoothly menacing with a fruity punch and roasty/toastyness taste that continues with a nice mix of light chocolatey bitterness. Milds out as it warms. Feel is very medium, nearly heavy, quite smooth and a bit creamy with a really interesting light little bitterness in the mouth, tongue, and even the lips. Super good stuff.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said well about this beer. I think it might be the best American Porter, at least the best I've tried. Pours a fantastic black cherry color and the amoma promptly wafts off the thick head. Sticky sweet and smoky, perfect balance of malt and hops. I could bathe in this stuff. Absolutely delicious. Local bar sells it for $2 bucks a pint all day every day. Hooray!

A fantastic beer! Probably, to this point in time, my most favorite Porter. Its coloring is a deep, rustic brown and it pours with a brown, firm, leathery head. A sweet aroma that reminds me of toffee coated oat bran. Upon sipping it starts out with sweet and tobacco-like and finishes off with a smooth textured coffee taste. A complex, but thoroughly satisfying example of an American microbrewed Porter!
