| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 19, 2006 "I will make it felony to drink small beer", a line read aloud from the Shakespearian play Henry VI, ahh bollocks! I never liked Shakespeare anyway. Apart from cattle feed for spent grains, the obvious choice would be to squeeze one more out before tannins and other nasties pop their head out. So here is the result, a brew that’s proud to be weak. Poured a bright medium gold with only a light flitter of carbonation here and there in the glass. Head grew rapidly and stabilised; quite firm and snow-white, to leave a little legs down the glass. Nutty and woody, biscuity malts on the nose with a soft addition of fruity esters like mangoes. Obviously thin in the mouth, which gave it the feel of a pale lager. Hops are pronounced, but are quite grassy and rather sharp in taste to differ greatly from the Liberty ale I tasted before this one. Reasonably soft and clean on the tongue, crossing it with remarkable ease before slipping through a bitter wall and showing a light note of pine-nuts and peaches in the swallow. The hops take hold after a few mouthfuls, stopping it from becoming bland or passing for a glass of sparkling water. Overall it wasn’t too bad a drop. A long way from its first run ’Old Foghorn’, being it had the body and taste of a light lager, but it still managed to quench a puckered thirst and kill atleast an hour. Or maybe that was the large bottle size. Still, it’s good to see another revivalist beer come out from the boys at Anchor. (3.8% ABV, 1 pint/6 fl. Oz, BBE 10/06, Int’l Beer Shop, W. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 31, 2006 Interesting flaming orangish-gold clear body with a soapy, white head. Some aromas of hay, almonds, and a bit of hops. Taste has a light, bitter, hoppy touch; some burned maltiness is there as well. The overall taste is pretty good, but no single trait stands out for being either outstanding or unique. bluevegie (2215), Perth, Australia
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 16, 2006 Bright and clear orange copper body with an average white head. Taste was fairly thin, light pleasant bitterness with some caramel and then some burnt rubber. I think I like the aroma better than the actual taste, initial hops lightly backed by malts. This slid down the throat easily it was fortunate that it was in a big bottle. OlJuntan64 (1267), Perth, Australia
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 10, 2006 Distinct medium intensity biscuity grainy malt aroma on opening of bottle. Pours an attractive clear orangey amber with a medium size medium lasting white head and some random lace. Head aroma had a fair bit of floral herbal stalish hop. Palate is very very light, yes you can call it watery with slight rubbery mouth feel. Flavours are medium bitter lowly caramel malt sweetness. After taste a touch or the acrid burnt malt bittter side. Despite all this it’s actually better than I thought it would be. Well made for a 3.3% ABV beer. chrisinsf (6), USA does not count | 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jan 6, 2006 NOTE: THIS IS NOT A "BITTER" DESPITE ANCHOR’S CLAIM... IT JUST TASTES BITTER!
Review: Extremely thin and watery with a quite bitter aftertaste. Almost no body. Like drinking water and then chewing on hops. Not very pleasant, but at least it doesn’t have any "off" flavors.
