Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Bottle at Old Chicago in Peoria, IL. Poured into pint glass. Amber color, tight head. Very malty and a tad touch of nuttiness as well. I’ll be getting a sixer of this very very soon. A more thorough re-rate will follow.

BOTTLE: copper pour with a large white head. Armoa is earthy and citrus, taste is malt and biscuit with some carbonation. Pretty good.

Lemony lighter beer, an amber that is a bit malty and hopped, comes across as a citrus earth palate, but an above par light beer, better than a simple lager.

(Bottle from Tesco’s, Diss) Appears dark orange/amber with a a good white head. Smells light fruit, citrus and earthy. Tastes hop-heavy with a bitter lemony finish. Sweet caramel evident in taste just before the bitterness kicks in, just enough sweetness to balance the bitterness out. Pretty good, really refreshing and brilliantly bitter for such a relaxing end of the day beer. Can see these becoming a great substitute for regular lager.

Deep amber colour, very thin head. Aroma of malt and hops smells syrupy. Unusual flavour has some hops.

Bottle in SF. Most probably your first steam beer. Pours a golden copped body with a white head. Light citrus and floral notes, sweet with a thin malt body. Nice bitter finish. Good brew.

Pours a copper color with a thin white head. Smells of biscuit, citrus and hops. Taste is bready with some bitterness - lots of carbonation.. a little too much for my taste. Decent beer but I prefer their Liberty Ale over this one.
