Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Thin white head atop a darker golden color. Citrusy aroma goes well with the almost orange peel taste. Sharp bitterness up front, almost smooth in the middle with bitter finished that hangs around.

Very enjoyable bottle from Super Tesco. Nice amber deep gold colour. Good malty taste, slight citrus notes. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a nice frothy head with persistence. Aroma is light and sweet, with some floral hops and bit of honey-ish sweetness. Flavour is slightly bitter, with a slightly sweet finish reminiscent of apricots. Overall, not as enjoyable or unique as the Liberty ale, but good nonetheless.

Tasted somewhere along my trip through the States.
Orange, amber colored brew. Enjoyable, but not very complex. Malty flavor. Nice hoppiness.

An outstanding bottle of suds. Strong start with a clean finish. It’s expensive, but worth every drop.

Draught @ the Yard House in Orange County with Mark and Beth. Softy and Malty with grassy hops and complex flavours coming through. Session beer all the way.

draught, Zeke’s. Orange, small white head that lasts fairly long, hazy. Layered aroma: grass, fresh grain, tree bark. Soft mouthfeel. Crisp, dry, refreshing, fresh-tasting, long hoppy finish, enough fruitiness to enhance body and character. Reliable.

I had a bottle of this at Phillips restaurant in Ocean City Maryland. It poured a dark copper color with a small off white head. To me it drank like a yuengling lager with just a touch more hops. I really enjoyed this beer, but not near as much as the all u can eat seafood buffet.
