Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

A beautiful, clear red-amber with a foamy off-white head that seemed to hold up pretty well and provided some unexpected lacing. Aroma is subtle, but hoppy and fruity. Taste is clean, crisp, slightly hoppy, but not necessarily watery. I give this pretty high marks for taking what at first seems to be an average beer and taking it up a level. Highly recommended to anyone used to macro-brews, but (foolishly) not interested in murky Belgians.

Fairly bitter initial taste but good aftertaste. Nice brown color with very light head. Better with food.

I like the color - clear golden brown. The head is small and fluffy, but it dissipates quickly. Smell is malty with some hops. Taste is about the same. It’s too fizzy to feally taste anything anyway.

I am rating from a bottle. I have had this on tap before, and I think that it is a bit smoother and less fizzy that way.

Pours honey brown, with two finger gold head. Smells of toast, yeast, bitter notes. Initial taste is very bready, hoppy, and a little fruit. Medium bitterness that fades to a small aftertaste on the tongue. A very solid option from Anchor. I am usually a fan of more malt heavy brews, but this one is quite good. My favorite Anchor besides the porter.

12 ounce shortneck into a mug. Pours very nicely, with a blooming crown (although it dissipates quickly) and deep honey color. Aroma of flowery hops and grasses. The flavor is fairly straightforward, tasting mainly of wheat and unroasted barley. A slight fizziness accentuates a slight bitterness. The hops become more noticeable as an aftertaste. The body is substantial, albeit a bit light compared to most ales. Very solid brew, if nothing astounding, pairs well with most food, and would make the perfect accompaniment to a hot day, if one is looking for something like but with more defining character than your average light lager.

Flaske. Mørkorange øl med et pænt skumhoved. Duften er malt, smagen er malt med en smule gær. Minder meget om en bockøl, og det bedste der kan siges om denne pænt kedelige øl er at den har masser af smag procenterne taget i betragtning.

Pours a translucent copper with a thin white head. Nothing really stands out about this beer, but it is solid nonetheless. Refreshing and easy to drink. This was one of the beers that got me drinking better stuff.
