Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Nice dark color with a decent, lasting white head. Bitter and hoppy with a dry finish. Had some other tastes in there I can’t quite describe. Very balanced. I had this when warm and it was still pretty good. A good beer.

Clear deep amber color with a creamy head and a sweet malt aroma. Wheat flavor that was a little nutty and had a bit of honey as well as a pleasant hop bitterness.

Aroma had some wheat and mild hops, with a little honey. Appearance was golden amber with creamy head. Flavor was mostly honey wheat with a surprising bitter hop dimension. Palate was very creamy and bubbly. Rather good beer yet very drinkable.

Pours a clear tawny with a medium head, off-white head that doesn’t retain very well. Has a lager type aroma with pale malt and English or German hops. The flavor is nice and crisp, with a well balanced mix of malt and hops. Medium bodied with a lightly bitter finish and tingling carbonation. Not mind blowing, but decent.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Pours a copper color with a big, white foamy head. The head disppears quickly, but it leaves light to moderate lacing. This beer has a nice aroma; nice blend of malts and hops. This is a very handsome beer, as it pours well and looks nice in your glass. The flavor is much like the aroma; a nice blend of malts and hops. This beer has a medium body, and is nicly carbonated. Somewhat dry, but very nice overall. Somewhat difficult to find for me, and a bit pricey at $9.99 per six pack, but worth it every once in a while.

Drank this in a bar in San Francisco. I heard a lot about this beer and I was a little disappointed. Amber/gold, hazy, small head. At first fruity but the bitterness sets in quickly. Dry aftertaste. Too dry in my opinion.

Pours light amber gold with a big white head. Aroma is light bready pale malts. Flavor is light, with dry pale malts and a little bit of grass. Not bad, but not that great.

tap: BV’s: had this before, never truly appreciated it... pours a honey/ brown/ copper leaving a very thin head layer. The nose is light, some malts and sugars. The palate is thin... just enough hops and malts to keep you interested, but not enough to give full body. Light, sweet, perfect with a burger.
