Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Sorry San Francisco, I’m afraid I just don’t get it. Pours honey brown with a clingy white head. Aromas of candy sugar and not much else. Tastes of bubblegum, clove, and malts with a bit of a lactic funky finish. Not something I’d want to have often.

pours out murky clear gold with a nice lumpy white head that was very frothy. the body is a clear white zinfandel in color with bubbles rising up in the center of the glass. the aromas are very moldy with notes of yeast, and hops. there is some malt and sweet spices also present. it is almost medium bodied and has a nice bubbly mouth feel as it rolls over the tongue. it is a little grassy and floral but still pretty balanced. the flavors all meld together and is almost like a "bright lager". very nice and refreshing beer. pairs well with fried poultry and other breaded meats that arent too strong in flavor.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Reddish brown beer with very small white head. Sweet taste is caramelly malty and the taste continues the same with nice hoppyness. Medium body. Not a bad beer but the style is not one of my favourites.

Aroma is very yeasty with a slight fruityness. OK Amber color with almost no head. The flavor reminds me of a good Michelob. The aftertaste is influenced by the alcohol taste. Decent bitterness in the taste but could have benefited from more hops.

This is a really good, simple beer. Pours dark yellow with plenty of head and lacing. Tastes like butter. Literally. I could drink a six pack of this and not get bored with it. A staple in my fridge, and I’m surprised I haven’t rated it yet.

This is a wonderful beer has a very roasty taste to the palette with a caramel aroma, the hops flow just right and it doesn’t have a very harsh afterbite like some beers. Overall a great beer

It’s aroma is of very subtle roasty malt. Solid copper in appearance with a quickly disappating head. Taste is of caramel malt, followed by a very dry finish. Not too much going on at all. Not bad but not enough flavor for me.
