Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

2008 Bottle - I found the aroma the nicest part, clean and bitter, floral - like sunshine in a bottle. The taste was something else...pale on the palate, bitter but not enoyable, weak finish....average...

Pours a OK golden color, not the best smelling beer in the world. has a nice refreshing taste, but not worth extra money.

Bottle, 355ml. Gold with white head. Fruity, overripe flavours with an apple tartness, thin and seemingly entirely hopless. Few redeeming features really, you have to search around for a point of interest. Average to poor.

20080428 12oz bottle. What the heck - I’ve never rated this. Good thing it’s pretty drinkable stuff because I just spent something crazy like nine bucks on a six-pack. The mind was thinking Sierra Nevada summer and I ended up with Anchor. Had no idea either that this beer was an American wheat. You don’t say? Well, it’s a clean golden pour with aggressively lacing fine white head. Aroma is peppery, lagery, at first a bit citrus/lemony but that dissipates right quick. Lefty just farted and it’s completely obnoxious - one of her best. Body is medium to light with an even, refreshing eff, and a mid-palate to finishing tartness. Reminds me of the ubiquitous American brewpub ’golden ale’ and just maybe this is the ancestor. There’s definitely some resemblance but, as with most of Anchor’s stuff, this is obviously more refined and made in earnest - even if it is kind of boring. Finishes tart, juicy, refreshing, but I’m not in love with the flavor overall. Eh.

I thought this was a nice simple wheat beer. Poured pale yellow with massive foamy head which was one of its drawbacks. Simple sweet taste that lends well to the season.

A flavourless mess. I think that Anchor Brewing is capitalizing on earlier success by now just putting out anything. In other words, I got played, thinking that this would be good because it’s from Anchor. Wrong; This has so little flavour or charcter, especially for an ale. There are much better beers for the price. I will not be having this again. Drinkable but utterly unmemorable.

A little disappointing from the folks at Anchor. I’ve really enjoyed all the brew- this was on the low end. Pours a hazey yellow colour with a medium sized head. Slightly fruity- noticeable wheat aroma with lemon and spice. Mouthfeel is lighter then expected, semi fruity finish.

Light grain aroma. Dark golden color with a small white head. Moderately sweet grain beginning that fades a little in the finish. Yeast taste also comes out in the finish. Palate is sticky in the end.
