Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Clear, brass colored with good, foamy white head / Clean, light nose of corn and honey / Light to medium body, a little fat with light carbonation, and balanced with some bitter hopping on the finish / Flavors of corn and wheat with undertones of honey and lemon / Good, but more akin to a pilsner than a wheat.

Orange-yellow color. Lemon Crisp, a little grainy; notceable carbonation. Mild bitterness. [Compared with a Sierra Nevada Wheat and an Issaquah Bullfrog Ale] The Anchor is the most bitter and most crisp. The Sierra is the only sorta buttery one. The Isaaquah is the most aromatic. They all taste pretty similar.

12oz bottle from Bevmo Carmel Mountain. Pours a mostly clear golden color, with a foamy white head. Had a light hop aroma and a crisp finish. This brew didn’t do much for me. Summer beers never really do.

bottle - Pours clear gold with a two finger head. It has a light citrus aroma. The flavor is sweet malt with little to no hops presence. The body is light and the finish fairly refreshing. Not bad, but it’s not impressive.

12 oz bottle thanks to xnoxhatex. Pours a clear yellow orange with a tall white head. Grainy nose with a touch of citrus. The flavors are the same with hardly any wheat characteristics. Prickly carbonation. Kind of a drainpour.

Free 12 oz bottle, from last summer. Clear yellow amber with huge white head. Aroma of grain. Flavor is dry and lager like with only a hint of wheat, also grain but not that pleasing. Hotly carbonated medium bodied beer. Not that great overall, even for a wheat ale.

This is a creamy refreshing beer, but if I knew it was a wheat beer I would’ve passed. Not what I would’ve expected out of anchor. That being said I’m not a fan of wheat beers and this is probably better than any other i’ve had. The initial malt/wheat flavor is similar to the steam beer, but much lighter body and really no hop kick. I’d take it over a budweiser but thats about it. I was done with wheat beer, this one snuck through and just confirmed my stance on the issue. Anchor Steam Beer is still one of my favorites, so I can’t knock the brewery. Love the lacing on this tho LOVE
