Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Encountered heavy malt on the nose, as well as a hint of lemongrass, but the "aftersmell," if you will, along with the aftertaste was rather metallic. The brew was fluid on the palate as any summer ale should be, while presenting with wheat, honey, and a touch of licorice. Decent to have if offered, just not that worth it to buy again.

Almost no aroma with this beer. Pours a clear amber with a nice fluffy white head. Flavor is a bit of hops with a touch of wheat. Very light on the palate, with a bit of carbonation fighting with the hop oils. Overall, not a bad beer... seemed a bit tame for the style, not bad for a hut summer night.

Pours a slightly darker, golden color witih a white head. Aroma is of citrus, wheat, grassy tones, and just a little floral hops. Flavor is citrus and slight lemon flavor up front with some toastiness, wheat, and spices. Pretty decent for an american wheat.

Bottle. Anchor usually brew quite nice beers, but this was a dissapointment. Nice long lasting head. Some wheat in the flavor. Some taste from citrus, but vey light. No need to have this beer again.

Bottle, pours clear, yellow-gold with a large and lasting foam cap. Aroma is old crackers, honey, and spiced grass. Flavor is blandish: stale and dry wheat mixed with sourish ash tray. Some slight honey and spiciness show up later. Palate is dry, smooth, watery and light-bodied. At least Anchor Brewing fesses up to being the criminals who unleashed the American Wheat style on us. I guess the statute of limitations is up on that by now. Stick with Belgian or German wheats and we can all escape from the nightmare.

355 ml bottle. Deep gold colour. Crystal clear. Throws a really tall fine-laced fluffy head. Crisp papery aroma with some distant piney notes. Light bodied. Crisp and light wheaty flavours. Some malts, but overall this is a very light beer. Oily texture. Refreshing hop flavours, but only a little hop bitterness. Finish somewhat watery with a light oily bitterness.

Aroma is strongly wheat and some blandness. Pours golden, somewhat transparent , and with a small white head that hangs around in the spots which I have not drank from. Flavor is initially wheaty followed by nice lemony crispness. Zesty and refreshing on the palate. Not alot going on here, but not bad.
