Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

12oz bottle. Pours a golden yellow body with a decent sized, lasting fluffy white head. Aromas of cereal grains, malt sweetness, wheat notes. Fore is grains, malts, wheat, honey, some citrus zest. Finish is of medium length and rather bland, but with some continued wheat and citrus notes. Good carbonation, medium mouthfeel. Medium astringency on the tongue, carbonation bubbles dance around. Fairly easy to drink, but very average. Give me Oberon any day.

The aroma holds toasted wheat, grain and light malt notes. The body is a light golden/yellow and holds a lasting, thumb thick, white head. Light bodied fore features mild citrus notes, toasted wheat and malt and a clean crisp finish. Quite refreshing and easy drinking.

Anchor Summer Beer 12 oz bottle Moderate pour in a shaker Brewed 04/07, lifted 06/07 Poured a clear golden color with a huge white fluffy rocky fully lasting head with lots of carbonation and good lacing. Smelt of moderate flowery wheat, oranges and perfume hops. Taste was upfront light to moderate sweet bitter and sour orange zest and light grain followed by a crisper bitter green hops and light sweet grain finish of moderate length. Palate was light bodied, slightly oily (or as the label says, with the consistency of beaten egg whites...) and lively carbonated. Overall, this is a very refreshing summer brew with a fair amount of flavor to satisfy the palate. I would only drink this on a hot summer day though, since the flavours aren’t very pronounced.

Malty woolblanket aroma. Golden yellow with a thick frothy white head. Flavors of hay, malt, light citrus bitterness. Palate is light but rich enough for a summer beer. Very enjoyable and drinkable. A well designed seasonal.

12 oz bottle. Poured an orangey/gold with a big white frothy head from a vigorous pour that settled down to a nice thin white layer of foam. Aroma was crisp and clean with floral hops and some maltiness but no detectable wheat, odd for a beer that claims to use 50% wheat malt. Mouthfeel was light with a watery feel. Malty flavor that started off weak but intensified on the aftertaste slightly. Nothing special about this seasonal.

Different wheat beer. Pour was a dark yellow with a 2 finger white head. Aroma of yeast and wheat. Heavily carbonated taste of banana, wheat and a bitter aftertaste that I wasn’t expected. More substance and a thicker mouthfeel than I like my wheat beers, but not too bad.
