Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Pours deep gold, almost amber, with a generous and durable bright white head that left thick lacing. Wheat malt is quite noticable in the smell, with a touch of grassy hops mixed in. Flavors are similar, with some spiciness and a lemony twang. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, and a clean finish. A decent beer, just not very exciting.

Pours a nice clear golden color with a foamy white head. Aroma is yeast, wheat, fruit, grass. Flavor is wheat, grass, slightly fruity sweetness. Easy drinking wheat ale.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a crystal clear, lighter golden body with a big, foamy, white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is light and crisp with some sweeter pale wheats, a light fruit, and some grassy, semi-metallic hops. Flavor is sweeter pale wheats, light fruits with a bit of a sourness, and a good amount of grassy hops that linger for a decent amount of time. Dry, light, and refreshing. Overall, a decent summer beer. The light wheat taste goes well with the light amount of grass and sweet flavors. Not bad, I can see myself quaffing a bunch of these at a Royals game.

Pours clear gold with a tall creamy white head that eventually fades to a thick skim and lasts. Aroma is very wheaty, yellow cake, citrus, limonade and some bready notes. Flavor is lots of grainy wheat, some sweet barley malt, dusty citrus notes, floral notes and cactus. Finish is wheat, cardboard and mineral notes. Palate is light bodied with a large bubbled but soft carbonation. Not bad for being a filtered Wheat Ale, but it is a filtered wheat ale.

Bottle, Rehills, Newcastle. A clean tasting, soft and citrusy beer, with almost a shandy-esque aroma and taste. Flavours of sherbert lemon, orange, grapefruit and peach. Slight dry taste at the back of the mouth. Great beer for a perfect midsummers evening. Late on, it reminded me of a good quality continental lager....!

A lightly golden colored beer with no head.A decent wheat taste but almost like a light American macro.May be good to drink after being outside but that’s it.This is my first rating so it might not be all that accurate.

I was excited to try this when I first found it. A nice summer beer imo. Balanced flavors. Some light malts with the right amount of hops and the right usage of hops. Very drinkable and refreshing. Almost on the sweeter side which makes it.

Anchor Summer Beer is a slightly hazy light golden beer with a thick, fluffy, white head that has outstanding retention and lacing. It has a fruity wooden aroma (Saaz?) and it smells a little funky. It’s light bodied; smooth and foamy with a crisp finish. It’s a mellow flavor. There’s enough green bitterness to keep me thirsty. There’s a note of lemon rind at the finish. It’s a nice summer beer: not watered down, but simple and refreshing.
