Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

(Bottle) Not the best Anchor beer I’ve had, and I know this brewery is capable of producing truly outstanding beers. Much too sweet, and not really all that interesting. To its credit, it lacks the unpleasant sourness that dominates many wheat beers. Neither crisp nor light. Not terribly complex either. But drinkable, and better than many wheat beers.

Golden (but cloudy) in color, lovely snow white head that leaves a mild lace. Some wheat, but there’s an off odor similar to animal stall in a barn. The beer also appears to have skunked slightly. More hopped than anticipated (I didn’t really smell it). Drier than most wheat beers. If I was blindfolded, I’d probably predict this to be a light American pale ale. This is a pleasant beer but not as a wheat beer; there’s very little to notice.

Appearance: Pours a clearish, fairly effervescent, golden body with a thin, white head. Smell: Faint nose of wheat with a light graininess to it and, well, nothing else. What’ve I gotten myself into this time? Taste: Slightly grainy malted wheat with a pinch of powdered sugar sweetness. A single, solitary drop of lemon. Faint bitterness. ... Aaannnndd, that’s about it, aside from the dry, faintly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation, a bit lively at times. Drinkability: Well, that was a big, cold glass of absolutely nothing. Weak, washed out, and woefully bland. Yes, I understand summer beers often opt for lighter flavor profiles, but this is ridiculous.

interesting fruit aroma and an equally appealing fruit taste. a farmhouse brew that seems to have an appreciable hop character to it. not a surprise this is a good wheat as it is from a good brewer. refreshing and i think underrated here with its nice summer lightness and appealing dry character paired with appropriate carbonation and cloudy white head. any brewhound will get into this wheat.

12 ounce bottle. Decent looking. Some hops but very little coupled with thin malt. Kind of lackluster but not bad

Aroma is light but not too light. with a nice, malty backbone. Flavor is very nicely balanced between barley and wheat malt, so it’s a little bit more bold than an all-wheat beer. This Not a whole lot of hoppy flavor, but its there and thats all that you can ask for with a wheat beer. Overall, very solid.

Appearance: pale gold color; huge, long-lasting, fluffy white head Aroma: lacks some intensity; everything is faint; may show some typical signs, but any such signs are definitely muted Flavor: moderately strong grainy wheat character; the richness and spiciness of rye might be noticeable which is definitely unexpected Mouthfeel: medium body; medium carbonation; seemingly mediocre

NIce looking beer. Nice thick head that doesn’t fade away quickly. Transparent in appearance. I wish it had a bit more haze i.e. more transparent/opaque. Big yeast aroma. Not much else to the aroma. Not a very good malt taste. At first it is slightly fruity/yeasty, but then the malt flavor kicks in and it isn’t that great. I was excited to see this at Green’s, Buford Highway for those in Atlanta, and I am not sure about Ponce, but I was hoping that it would be better. For $10 a 6-pack there are better wheat/witbiers/or hefeweizens.
