Interesting that I scored this beer identically on all counts bottled and back home a couple of years ago. Fruit like stewed apple, grape and fig in the aroma, joined by rust, choc, Twiglets. Dubbelish and a bit bloody. Yeasty, sweet and peppered with choc. Cherryish ruby red with a beautiful fat tan collar. Wood and yeast extract aroma underscored with herbal noble hop notes as it warms. RYE BREAD. Yeasty, nutty, slightly burnt bitterness. Slips down disturbingly well before midday.
(original rate) 0.5L bottle. Deep red pour with a lasting off-white head. Powerfully fruity, sticky licorice snout with lots of heady alcohol. Silky licorice warmer with a mellowing malty softness. Raisiny, malt-loafy fruity like a (much) richer version of Pelforth brune. Rich, foody and smooth.Tragically, I had to share it.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 14, 2008 [bottle] Pours a dark brown color, very clear, with a dense and clingy off-white foam. Impressive. Dense malt aromas, some sugary sweetness. Flavors are very malty, chocolate and fruity esters. Plum, raisin and dark fruit. Very complex. Finishes with some lingering malt character and a good spicy, herbal bitterness. Outstanding. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
