It pours a beautiful red beer with a quick diminishing beige head. The nose is of nuts, roasted malt, coconut, milk, bread and mothballs. Full bodied. Nuts, molasses and dried fruits in the taste. Good bitterness. Some cherries and marmite show up. Fairly woody with quite a lot of bite just before the finish which is full, herbal and hoppy. The finish lasts for quite a while.. Very powerful and impressive. Full bodied, intense and rather enjoyable. The dried apple-like elements don’t appeal to me though. Additional comment: Full bodied, sweet, malty with hints of marmite. Vinous. Decent. Not worth purchasing again. Rerate pending. daniele (1711), Italy

Nothing like a good doppelbock on a weekday morning on the beautiful balcony of the Kloster. Appears dark red, translucent with a big foamy head that laces well. aAroma is sweet, brown sugar and fruity. A touch bitter in the mouth, full malty body, you can sense but not taste alcohol and it is sweet, but not overbearing. A good doppelbock, but a bit thin. Has a lingering dryness. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 17, 2007 Flaske. Flot mørkerød øl, med en anelse mere nuance i smagen end semper ardens bock. Men med det sagt er der stadig langt op til en god weizen bock. Derfor en smule skuffet over denne ellers udemærket øl. kmweaver (2465), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a bright, clear, ruby-brown color; light tan head with good retention and lacing. Tons of fresh barley and chewy nougat in the aroma; malty without being sticky. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: toasty grains, cracked, barley, and cereal at the core; very generous, sessionable dunkel; caramel and nougat coming through at mid-palate. I could drink a lot of this. Medium, toasty barley and caramel in the finish. downender (2593), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 16, 2007 Bottle. This was disappointing. Ruby-red, with a big, tight off-white head. Pronounced sweet malt aroma with some doughiness. Malty, dark fruit flavour with a dry finish. Very easy drinking, but clinical, clean and lacking in character. The hue of brown that harkens to the Fall season, warm and inviting. Aroma is seductive. Malt dominant with wisps of leather and a hint of tobacco. Finishes with a touch of sweet caramel. the flavor is not as sweet as the aroma led me to believe. There is a nice full malt flavor, cut with a "wood-like" dryness. Some bitterness, but this is an extremely well integrated beer. Skyview (4055), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2007 Last beer sampled at Badgerben’s Cellar Reduction Night. Pours a dark reddish amber brew with an average off-white head that slowly dissolves to a fine film and ring. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt, raisins, some sweet chocolate, dried dark pitted fruit and some citrus hops. Taste is smooth, creamy, full bodied with some carbonation and texture. Taste flavor matches its aroma with more roasted malt and chocolate flavors. Finish is semi-sweet with a lingering malt and alcohol aftertaste. I would like to try this brewery fresh the next time. Nice though.
