Good colour although a short head. Distinctive nose and plenty of smooth malty flavours, warming alcohol, dark fruits and a long finish. 19641948 (491), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Added to my RB list to check "Germany" as a beer country consumed. Traded with Bierman9 in Boston at a beer fest for a Dark Lord 2005. Fantastic in so many ways. Fig, plum, cherry, strawberry, raisin, creaminess, caramel, nut, dark bread. All dance together in a joyous celebration of beer. Absolutely wonderful. thebeertourist (2822), Oslo, Norway

Pours deep murky brown with thick, sudsy off-white head and intermittent webs of lace. Big orangey nose. Some nut there as well. Tingly carb and a nice creamy body for a lager, with forward flavors of mild milk chocolate, sweet brown bread, nuts, and a bit of non-tart citrus. Nice clean finish even with a bit of grain husk linger. Nicely done. Dedollewaitor (3764), Odense, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2007 Updated: Jun 8, 2009Red amber with fine white head. Deep malty caramel, nutty & bready. Roast bitter taste. Filling medium body. Good lacings. Light warmth from alcohol - and light sweet as well (dark fruits & sugar). Bitter light sticky end! One of the best doppelbock’s iv tasted for sure. Rerating June 09. A notch down. Too much rye-bread and not as chewy as remembered. Alcohol and metal disappoints a bit. thomahan (27), Denmark
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2007 Black and strong. Lots of flavour especially, coffee and chocolate and a worderful burned finish. Lots a sweetness in this beer. I would characterise this beer to have a medium to full body, chmurarz (402), Raciborz now Legnica, Poland
