bottle from the always generous Duane...pour was a mahogany brown with a thick off white head, nose was fruit, fig and banana. no hint of any abv in the aroma, a nice light flavor of malt and fig, a little bit of spice. body has a bit of syrupiness in it, but the sweetness is far from cloying, and the maltiness is a nice residual flavor. this was one of my most sought after beers for a long time, and it was every bit worth the wait

Courtesy boboski. Pours a dark brown with a small white head. Big dark malts and dark fruits dominate the aroma. Just a twinge of banana is noticeable as well. Wow, great flavor. Some smoke, but mostly malts and dark fruits. Really sweet, some cinnamon. Nice finish, really well balanced, excellent aftertaste. The sugar and fruits really stand out in the end. Great brew.

Courtesy boboski. Poured a clear dark copper color with a thin white head. Caramel, spice/clove aroma is unique. Quite dry overall with caramel and spice lingering throughout the palate. Sweet, dry finish. Not as thick as some other dopplebocks, but great nonetheless.

Pretty disappointed. Thin, smoky flavor. Alcohol taste is too strong and astringent on the palate. I love Doppelbocks, and this one was disappointing.

Bottle courtesy of Plucier: Poured a deep brown color doppelbock with a medium foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of banana bread with some light ester is quite interesting and enjoyable. Taste of banana bread and light ester is interesting and the creamy texture provides an even higher level of enjoyment. I have to admit that my expectations were quite high and I was glad to have been able to secure a bottle but I still believe this a notch below the Ayinger. The bottle had a BB date of 07/2007 which probably didn’t help as I would think fresh bottle of this stuff would be better – hopefully I will have the chance to try this one gain in the near future.

Bottle: Finally, I got one to try! Caramel mahogany color, nice fizzy dispersive off-white head. Small lacing. Nose of sweet raspberry and toffee, rich caramel, abounds of fruity Maillards and yeast esters. Like a strong woman, impressively intense and feminine. The flavor is sweet, balanced, rich, note offensively bitter, some nice light cocoa and cinnamon, but lots of caramel. Finish is balanced, perfect, nice. Thanks BuckeyeBoy!

(Bottle, BB 02/02/07) Pours a clear mahogany body with a medium beige head. Aroma of sweet molasses and toasted malt. Flavor of honey, maple syrup, vinous, and toasted oats.
