Nose-honey, butter, rum. Taste-straw, surprisingly unsweet, honey, mildly dusty, dirt, staleness, cola, wet coffee grounds, very light tannins, molasses, sweetens as it warms up, but not overly so. Very decent easy drinker with some interesting flavors. willblake (2178), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

I know I’ve got more notes on this beer from more recently, but this is it for now. Thinner than expected beer is fruity (raisin, dates, plum), sweet (pretzel, cookie dough) and mild. Overall good stuff in the range of world classic doppelbocks. oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2007 Bottle, Haus der 100 Bieres, Berlin. Ruby-brown with a lasting, large 2-finger tan head - absolutely beautiful looking beer. Aroma just didn’t come through for me, and I’m not sure why. Everything seemed a bit indistinct, a little muddled: dark fruit made some appearance, sweet malts edging on caramel, nothing especially engaging however. Definite fruity character in the taste, with a nicely rounded and balanced caramel malt tone, and some slight estery spice notes as well - cinnamon, clove perhaps. Rasping aftertaste. Not overly complex, but well crafted, enjoyable. Palate was a bit watery - felt like for the flavors here, it could’ve been thickened out. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 5, 2007 Updated: Jun 9, 2009A friend brought it back from Germany. Very dark red-brown with a medium head which disappear after a few seconds. The aroma is strong caramel, wheat, spices and hints of dark fruits. Taste is sweet, there is a lot of caramel, wheat, roasted malt, dark fruits. I would have tought there would be some banana in there but not at all compared to the Aventinus. Mouthfeel is very good for this type of beer, not too syrupy. Great beer and very drinkable.
