Solid off-white foam over a clear mahogany body. Dark malty to the nose. Malty base also in flavour - sweet and roasted supported by traces of dark chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. Quite well made (29.09.2006). sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2006 Bottle thanks to Papsoe: Mahogany in color with a medium tan head, that didn’t last all that long, but left some nice lacing. Aroma, roasted malts, dark fruits, a bit of yeast, a little nutty. Flavor, lots of malts, sweet and nutty, toffee, caramel, a hint of fruits. Just a bit of warming to it, but it might be enhanced by the nice fall breeze right now. rpattinson (83), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 19, 2006 Pale brown colour with a dense, rocky, pale ttan head; bread, apple, date and malt aroma; sweet taste with toffee, fruit and ginger aromas; bitterish finish with toffee, caraamel, raisin and ginger aromas.
Quite nice sweet malt flavours but at this strength I would have expected a little more complexity. I’ve had a lot better Doppelbocks than this. I’m amazed it’s rated so highly. How many German Doppelbocks are available in the USA - just this and Ayinger Celebrator? That’s the only way I can explain their high ratings.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 13, 2006 Bottle. Now there’s a doppelbock of note. Old beer buddy, SubstanceT, is a dopplebock man and hasn’t seemed to have sampled this. Do so, my friend. Chestnut brown under a small and fleeting head. Big malt aroma, nutty and slightly sweet, some fruitiness. Only medium bodied but the flavor is full and rich. An excellent doppelbock.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 13, 2006 On tap at Gollem. Dark brown coloured. This is a very interesting beer, reminded me a bit of Guinness. It has a tall head, with a prickly and bitter taste. Very syrupy. Alcohol very noticeable-lethal, even. strings (361), Sydney, Australia
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2006 Man, this stuff was amazing. I think the first doppelbock I’ve tried, and what a good one to start with. Lots of molasses, toffee, and other flavours I couldn’t quite identify in this syrupy (in a good way) concoction. The most amazing thing was the abrupt finish after the onslaught of such strong flavours. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 13, 2006 Poured a dark brown with good head and okay lacing. Aroma was dark fruits caramel and chocolate. Flavor was much the same nice earthy ness grass hops to balance it out. Solid beer #2 within style for me. Had along side 5 others within this style. onystrom (801), Århus-Randers Crew, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 11, 2006 Clear dark red color with fine head. Very sweet malty and fruity flavor. A bit atrong alcohol in the finish. Don’t quite think this is the second best Doppelbock in the world!
