Bottle courtesy of thedm and hotstuff at Indy tasting. Clear brown with brassy colors. Aroma is malty and also with a fruity cider like character. Very roasted, toasted, and a bit fruity in the flavor. Chocolate malts and carmel smoothness. Very plesant beer.

(Bottle courtesy ’the_dm’ Indy tasting 12/10/05) - 2005 - Aroma of carmel, toffee, malt, and black licorice. Pours a deep brownish red with medium head. Flavor is sweet creamy carmel and chocolate malts with subtle hop undertones. Palate is very smooth and clean. A great Doppelbock.

Bottle. Thanks to THEDM for sharing this. Pours a redish brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is light with apple cider notes. Flavor produces complex chocolate and coffee notes. Huge creamy mouthfeel. Excellent brew.

On tap at the Kloster in a 1L stein. Deep brown reddish color. Thick mouth feel with a malty body that has many different flavors in it. Towards the end of liter you start tasting more boozy flavors that warm you on a cold late november Bavarian day.

Still liking this at least as much as Welternburger, it has almost a similar horsey-farmey character under the beefy malt profile. Powerful but the alcohol warms without singing your taste buds. Toffeish and deep. Earthy and silky. Wonderful.
