Brown with a little head. Malt, bread and apple aromas. Somewhat sweet but with lots of hops. Very warming.

European Bottle Pour (Duh) - Deep brown body with light brown head. Aroma - Coffee, dark chocolate, malty, a bit fruity, quite sweet. Flavor - More chocolate and coffee, a little smokey. Full body with creamy palate. Finishes on the slightly bitter side. Delicious...

Best before 12/30/05. Very dark brown with ruby hues on the edges. Dense, bubbly, off white head. Aroma of roasty malt, smoke, chocoffee, dark fruits-figs. Same flavor, medium body, dry and smokey, bubbly yet creamy. Roasty aftertaste. One of if not the best dopplebocks I’ve had.

I had it at the Andechs Monestary, along with their wonderful food. Out of the tap with a rich head and a large dimpled mug, the aroma was wonderful. A wonderfully lively beer with a very complex finish and a smooth maltiness. Very quinching, and firm but not over-filling, as I was able to down about three liters in an afternoon. Possibly the best beer experience of my life.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours ruby-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavour are mainly malt with notes of alcohol, smoke and a bit of sourness. I’m not a huge Bunkel fan (thanks tupalev!) but this is pretty good.

Bottle, shared with Blankboy, GregClow, and HogTownHarry, courtesy of my wife’s adventurous bosses in Switzerland. Dark ruby red, very thin white head. Some alcohol, some sweet malt, hint of smoke in aroma. Very solid malt taste, medium body, bubbly mouthfeel. Neat smoky sweet finish. Doesn’t knock your socks off, but this is a very solid bock/dunkel (we coined the phrase Bunkel, which fits here I think). 7.1%? Really?

Intense bold flavour, bit of everything. Roast, whiff of smoke, some sourness, dark chocolate, molasses. Medium-full chewy mouthful. Dark chocolate colour, chocolate aroma. Creaminess and really interesting range of flavours with multi-course meal. Thanks Mr. Madsberg from Denmark.
