Brewed by Monks in the Alps. Pours a beasutifu deep brown with subtle reddish hues with a small but lasting head atop. Aroma is of hazelnuts, chocolate, roasted malts. Same in taste. Excellent balance of sweetness, strength, alcohol, malt. Feel in mouth is very good, if only slightly thin. Overall, a fantastic beer. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA

Thanks to civ for sahring another one of these beauties. Pours a great dark brown with red highlights. A thin yellowish head tops it. Aroma is apples with a roasted hazelnuts. Also an earthy and malty caramel. The taste is very well balanced. It has roasted peanuts, celery and syrup. Then as you drink, you get roasted toffee and little sweetness. The finish is slightly salty. Overall a very solid and excellent dopplebock. I tried this again at the Nooga 2005. Still a solid beer. Prostman (1077), Pennsylvania, USA

Firstly, this beer smells so malty, with hints of dough that make your nose want to stay sniffing the glass. The beer poured a clear, deep amber/brown color with a thick off-white head. The flavor was very balanced with a great maltiness. The finish was great which made this beer even more outstanding. This beer is truly worth a perfect score as it is now my favorite beer for the style and one of my all time favorites. Well worth the wait and very highly recommended. turbothy (725), Bonn, Germany

If you want a sad, sad story, ask him about his success at carrying bottles of this home with him from Germany. Very redish amber color out of the bottle with a frothy tan head. Incredibally malty nose, like malt syrup. Strong malty sweetness with an almost smoked roast pork flavor with apples, dried fruit and deep caramel sweetness. Full mouthfeel. A truely wonderful beer. Very pleasent doughy, bready aroma, with hints of vanilla. Toasty flavor, with notes rye bread, pepper and maybe a bit of cedar? Full bodied and light on the toungue at the same time. Nothing hints at its 7.2% alcohol. Very tasty. maeib (4766), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

The aroma has some roastiness in it and a little bit of tar. The taste is full and rich. Licquorice, malt loaf, roasted malt, oil and coal, and treacle all combine to give a really nice drinking experience. Really good stuff!
