| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Bottled. A very dark coloured beer with a short lived tan coloured head. The aroma has some roastiness in it and a little bit of tar. The taste is full and rich. Licquorice, malt loaf, roasted malt, oil and coal, and treacle all combine to give a really nice drinking experience. Really good stuff! SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

First, this has a beautiful full head which is often missing or diminished in the Doppelbocks. Dark mahogany pour with a head of light tan.
Rich malty nutty aroma that really invites a taste. Caramel and butterscotch. Full flavored, rich and malty yet avoids all aspects of being overly sweet or cloying - perfect balance. Rich and smooth with a medium body. Absolutely no alcohol presence. Not the best Doppelbock I’ve had, but this one is getting there and if it were more widely available, it might easily take over the #1 spot. Very drinkable brew. flemdawg (485), Naples, Florida, USA

Very suprised to get to taste this one, and I thank Matt for the change to do so. If the bottle could talk, it would first say "Drink Me!" and then tell you the sad story of how it made it to the States with barely the label on its back. Poor little fella. Anyway the beer... Dark brown/red with a sizable tan/offwhite head. Very malty aroma with fruits in it as well. A super tasting beer. Malts, chocolate, and some dark fruits. Super easy to drink. A wonderful treat. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 3, 2004 (on bottle) Big MOFO on the wood and chocolate sents here. The alcohol is well hidden for the nose, but with first sip, there´s a short kick of it, nice. Other impressions is nuts, nore chocolate, toffee and fat loads of dark malt. Underfermented beauty in motion. Grand beer for windy, grey, day in the fall when Bush is reellected, God forbid. With my salted herrings and rye bread, the alcohol wa a bit more dominant a some bitternes was brought in. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

Aroma is malty with some sweetness, notes of caramel, nuts and coffee. Flavor has some malty sweetness with some dark fruits. Some alcohol in the finish. Indra (2041), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 1, 2004 (bottle) Sweet, malty, toffeeish aroma, hints of prune and other dark fruits, bread and earth, also some faint wood and doughy yeast; fairly complex and unique character. Mahogany color, clear, with a with a subsiding, light tan head. Flavor is of course also primarily malty and sweet, perhaps very faintly vinous, with hints of dark toffee, plum, more faint earthiness and bready malt with just a brief appearance by the hop bitterness towards the finish, which is also very lightly roasty and chocolatey, perhaps some tobacco in the aftertaste. Very full-flavored, to say the least. Mouthfeel features some lively carbonation carrying the flavors rather well. Body is medium-full. Different in its flavor development and complexity. Makes for a good nightcap or dessert choice, in which capacity it has already served a handful of nights. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 29, 2004 Draft at the monastery in Andechs, Germany. Ivory head, transparent, good lacing and a reddish brown hue. Malty and caramel aroma and some light clove notes. Flavor was delicious-sweet, malty, caramel, some vinuous flavor, and a roasty aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel. A very, very good Dopplebock and well worth the trip to the monastery to get it fresh. egajdzis (3645), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 28, 2004 Poured a reddish brown color with a small thin, fluffy, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of dried fruits, sweet caramel and honey, light alcohol. Sweet chocolate, caramel, light roastiness, musty cobwebs and light alcohol as well. Creamy mouthfeel, this is a solid Doppelbock.
