(Rerate 27.4.2007, prev 8-4-7-4-16) Dark amber color, little beige head. Chocolate, nuts, toffee, grains and slight alcohol in aroma, this was as good as I remembered from the first time. Medium to full bodied. Strong chocolate in flavor, nuts, sweet caramel, even some vinous tones and mild alcohol there also with some roastiness. Aftertaste has nice warmnig alcohol with lasting nutty tones and chocolate. Excellent beer, still maybe slightly too sweet.

On tap in Wiesbaden. Beer was a dark ruby color with a thick, foamy head. Sweet smell of caramel, malt, and fruit. Body was thin and seemed watered down. Low carbonation. Really sweet caramel & honey, but balanced bitterness. Finished dry and clean. Second mug tasted better.

Dark caramel body with a thick small head. Malty aroma with sweet roasted tones. Sweet fruity and honey notes on the first mouth impression developing into malt and hops. Low carbonation. Powerful but not overwhelming, the alcohol is well hidden. A little marvel !

Thanks to my friend Vince for sharing but also to his in-laws for bringing this back from their trip to Germany. Ruby colored brown body. Small tan head. Aroma is rich with sweetened malt, caramel, fruits, and I could swear I smelled grape bubblegum. Taste is equally filling withmore sweetened malts, caramel, some lighter fruit notes, a splash or two of brown sugar and faint grassy hops. Mouthfeel is full and rich while being mildly carbonated. Some slight alcohol warming as well. Finish is much the same as the taste - more malt and caramel. Damn good beer!

pours a nice red color with hints of brown and a light tan head. good clarity for sauch a dark beer aroma is very sweet ans slightysmokey. the taste is quite complex, strong malt backbone with dark fruit, roasted, smokey flavors. long lasting finish. i general i am not a dopplebock fan, except for celebrator, but this is not so bad, the more i drink the more i like. i taste liqourice on the end. with a nice residual sweetness.

Ruby colour. Good head. Malty, sweet-ish aroma with lots of marzipan and a touch of smoke. Full-bodied, sweet flaviour with notes of blackcurrant and liquorce. Warming alcohol in the finish.

3/13/04. Poured out of 500 mL bottle, shared at Pizza Port 12-Hour Belgian Festival ’04 courtesy of jcalabre on RateBeer 3/13/04. A dark brown red, mostly transparent with a red edge. Head is disappointingly little, lingering on the edges with fast, blotchy lacing. Still a pretty good-looking doppelbock. Aroma is great-- very rich, complex autumnal malts. Flavor is full, dark, and delicious. A very balanced blend of roasted wood, grain, smoky fruitiness, and dark raisin. Surprised at the roast in here, but it’s simply delicious. Body is full and a bit dry. Finishes long and malty, rich and swirling with compelxity.
