Poured out of 500 mL bottle, shared at Pizza Port 12-Hour Belgian Festival ’04 courtesy of jcalabre on RateBeer 3/13/04. A dark brown red, mostly transparent with a red edge. Head is disappointingly little, lingering on the edges with fast, blotchy lacing. Still a pretty good-looking doppelbock. Aroma is great-- very rich, complex autumnal malts. Flavor is full, dark, and delicious. A very balanced blend of roasted wood, grain, smoky fruitiness, and dark raisin. Surprised at the roast in here, but it’s simply delicious. Body is full and a bit dry. Finishes long and malty, rich and swirling with compelxity. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA

Pours a dark reddish brown with a thick off-white head. Aroma is roasty and woody. Taste is very sweet/syrupy with caramel malt, some hops and notes of dark fruits, wood, chocolate and smokiness. Very well balanced. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy. Highly recommended! y0cola (361), fremont, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 24, 2004 Very dark chestnut beer, slim dark-yellow head. Very bready nose, with aroma of dark brown candi sugar. Bit of pine as well. Great taste - bitterish, woody taste, balanced between hops and dark malts, superposed on a sweeter, malty and sugar-syrupy base. Well bodied, slick, very slight acidity. Classic beer. The "sugar syrup" description doesn’t do it right - it is correct however, and it tastes good all the same. ToadMan (554), Washington, Washington DC, USA

Nice rich malty aroma with tones of raisin and fig. Flavor is muc the same, slighlty sweet, quite malty tones of fig, raisin, and dark fruits. Not as rich as Celebrator, but more complex ogivlado (3095), Zagreb, Croatia
