Smell was of dark fruits, plums, dark sugar, alcohol and a little sourness. Weirdly I thought of tomatoes as well. Quite complex and intense but not overwhelming. Great well balanced taste - hints of dark fruit, chocolate, nuts, brown bread and a warming alcohol. Initially bitter but then interchanges with the sweet. Velvety mouthfeel with just enough carbonation. Not too complex so easy to drink but gorgeous too. mazfln (84), Florianópolis, Brazil, Brazil

It has a very balanced flavour, with a nice sweetness that is balanced by the bitterness, and notes of chocolate.
Wonderful Bier, looking forward to try this at the Kloster. fata2683 (880), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 21, 2009 bottle, pours a very red amber, with a tall off white/light tan head, good lacing as it goes down. Camel malt, with a plum character aroma. Sweet malt, sour grainyness, and a suprising bitter and smoke filled finish. Wonderful finish that brings another complexity to a well balanced doppelbock. Carbonation is moderate but this full bodied beer retains a creamy mouth with a little crisp edge in the finish. No wonder it’s one of the best. SeanMacGC (237), Dublin, Ireland

Sumptuous aroma of malts, caramel and coffee. Well balanced complexity on the palate of everything that the aroma promises, with dark fruits besides. Reassuring mouthfeel, and overall a very decent Doppelbock. Grossecaisse (108), France

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 13, 2009 A good doppelbock. Poured very nicely with a lot of carbonation. Little on the palate but with a solid alcohol presence. A bit one dimensional for my liking but still a solid offering. Notes of dark sugar, dark fruits and caramel. Crisp and clean medium light with sharp carb and a creamy finish. Taste is burnt sugar, brown bread, nuts, plum and dry coffee. Beautifully balanced, simple, but hits all the right notes.
