Commercial Description:
This is it! The powerful, full-bodied, strong beer which is Andechs's trademark. Brewed in the traditional Triple Mash procedure and available throughout the year, not just during the "Starkbierzeit"!

Bottle poured into a large Pilsener Glass brought forth a large of white head that lasted a while .The body of this brew was crystal clear and dark brown with some ruby highlights in color. This thing is pretty it looks better than a touched up print add. This is a nice light aroma, not what I expected from a dark brew. Very subtle bread and sweetness with an almost undetectable roasted malts note in the end. This is what a doppelbock should be, yes I have found the standard bearer. This is sweet and malty but at the same time earthy so as to keep the sweetness in check. I can’t find any alcohol present in the flavors. Smooth, creamy and rich comes to mind when trying to describe what I feel in my mouth I am already sad seeing this on drain from my glass, if I make it to Germany this will be my beer of choice I just have to end this review with, Prosit!

[bottle] Toasty and sherry-like aroma with slight notes of coffee, smoke, and chocolate. Clear auburn with a thin beige cover and ring. Grainy pumpernickel flavour with a little banana, some nuts, dried fruit, and liquorice notes. Sweet and with some perceptible hops. Medium body, moderate carbonation, lasting dark malt bitterness.

Small light brown head. Deep brownish red body. Deep strong earthy caramelly malt aroma with roasty oily toffee notes and traces of wild berries. Dry-sweet roasty caramelly taste with earthy notes. Light mouthfeel. Chocolatey toffee can also be noted. Sweetish wooden caramel finish with minty notes. Lovely! (0.1l taster from bottle at EBF’08.)

Bottle @ EBF. Nice brown color. Aroma was a bit murky with some fruity and malty notes along with some bread. Flavor was malty with some fruity and sweet notes. Not as good as expected.

This was a gift from beeryum some time ago, opened at the faculty Oktoberfest. Poured a rich mahogany with a tall creamy off-white head which refused to dissipate. Rich aroma hits of smoke, raisins, pipe tobacco, biscuit dough and caramel toffee, alluring and inviting. Flavor is a mix of sweet and dry, with notes of raisins, molasses and caramel, a touch of toffee. Terrific, terrific beer, reminding me why this is my favorite German style. As the bottle emptied to the sound of the overwhelming praise of my fellow faculty members, I could not help but curse my inability to get more of this brew.
