BitchesBrew (698), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA May 14, 2008 [bottle] Pours a dark brown color, very clear, with a dense and clingy off-white foam. Impressive. Dense malt aromas, some sugary sweetness. Flavors are very malty, chocolate and fruity esters. Plum, raisin and dark fruit. Very complex. Finishes with some lingering malt character and a good spicy, herbal bitterness. Outstanding.
GAManiac (283), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pours dark, dark brown with a big fluffy tan head that recedes to a cap leaving big clumps of lacing. The beers has a nice hazy amber tint when held up to the light.
Smell is headlined by a big caramel malt background with some brown sugar, dark fruits and spices. There was also a hint of hops in the nose as well.
Very complex taste that starts with a dry, roasted caramel malt sweetness. There is a cola sweetness on the palate with some sugar and dark fruits. The hops and slight dry character keep the sweetness in check and maintain a great balance.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with enough carbonation to leave the tastes dancing around on the palate between sips.
This is an extremely well-balanced and drinkable dobblebock. I’d probably put it a strong second among dobblebocks I’ve tasted. Highly recommended! hophead_hans (572), Bay Area, California, USA Aug 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours with a reddish copper color. Velvety texture and aromas of dark fruit and caramel. Flavors of malt candy, quite sweet with no alcohol hotness. Some more complexities develop as it warms up, such as caramel and some toastiness. Ljunkan (120), Karlstad, Sweden Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Dark red/brown color with a nice white foam. Aroma of dark bread, malt and syrup. Sweet, malty flavour with notes of dark bread, some liqourice and spices. Very fullbodied, pretty smooth, creamy and thick. I really love the palate. Alcohol is warming in the stomach. Great doppelbock! I wish it was available in Sweden. ha1ag (233), Netherlands Aug 9, 2008 bottled, tnx to DH8VV ! color is dark as expected with a tan thick head. Nose has caramel and malts. Aroma has malts, burned caramel and stings of alcohol. Perfectly composed ! Flavour has malts and complex sweetness with a flattened malty finish. Palate is amazing. Fantastic! Borresteijn (509), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 8, 2008 On tap @ De Geuzen last winter. Dark reddish brown, creamy head. Aroma of sweet malts, laurel, liquorice. Taste is sweet, malty, laurel and liquorice as well. Became cloying towards the end, too much sugar I guess. Lots of nice flavours though.
