1 Liter Draft at Andechs - Very, very dark brown, nearly black color. Huge white head. The thick cloudy head was over the top of the glass by at least an inch. Rich caramel, malty freshnes in the aroma. This beer caught me off guard a bit as I expected a strong blast of flavors. This is soft and has a very subtle complexity. Malt and fruit flavors present themselves well. Outstanding and a lot of fun. The only doppelbock I've had that I could, and did, drink all night.

Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Dark red/brown color with a nice white foam. Aroma of dark bread, malt and syrup. Sweet, malty flavour with notes of dark bread, some liqourice and spices. Very fullbodied, pretty smooth, creamy and thick. I really love the palate. Alcohol is warming in the stomach. Great doppelbock! I wish it was available in Sweden.

Aug 9, 2008 bottled, tnx to DH8VV ! color is dark as expected with a tan thick head. Nose has caramel and malts. Aroma has malts, burned caramel and stings of alcohol. Perfectly composed ! Flavour has malts and complex sweetness with a flattened malty finish. Palate is amazing. Fantastic!

Aug 8, 2008 On tap @ De Geuzen last winter. Dark reddish brown, creamy head. Aroma of sweet malts, laurel, liquorice. Taste is sweet, malty, laurel and liquorice as well. Became cloying towards the end, too much sugar I guess. Lots of nice flavours though.

Aug 4, 2008 Updated: Aug 14, 2008From bottle. Dark redish brown, hazy. Little head that quickly goes away.Malty aroma. Very malty taste, burnt caramel. Carbonated. Taste not very complex, mostly malt. Somewhat sweet. Ok I guess. I am an Ale drinker venturing out into other worlds. I still prefer ales so my rating could be biased.
