One of the original oatmeal stouts that I began to drink years and years ago. This stout is smooth, creamy and with a trace of roasted malt. You have to love oatmeal stouts, they are just so drinkable with generally a lot of complexity and flavor for a lighter bodied beer. Truly a session beer.

12oz bottle from Johns Marketplace in Portland. dark brown pour with medium tan head. aroma of chocolate and roasty malts. taste is straightforward mix of coffee, oats, milk chocolate and light spice. the palate is the highlight here - slick, creamy and very drinkable for a stout. finishes up with just a touch of bitterness.

Pours black with large dark mahogany highlights and a 3 finger chunky tan head that has awesome retention. Aroma is dry dark chocolate, roast, dry nutty notes, dry oats, toasted grain, with hints of coffee and mollasses. Flavor is big on roast, fresh granola, bitterseet chocolate, some sweet bread spice, some char, toasty wood notes, some dark caramel, coffee and nutty notes. The finish is slightly bitter but seems more like char and dark roast coffee bitterness, kind of strange. Palate is thin pretty thin and slightly overcarbonated, which would be fine but it seems to clash with the suprisingly sweet flavor profile. Overall this is a decent stout but it seems a little confused on style.

Bottle. Pours black with a thick, foamy tan head. Aroma of bitter chocolate, chocolate syrup, mocha, roasted chocolate, and roasted malt. Intriguing. Flavor of sweet roasted malt with some sweet roasted chocolate at the end. Palate is a little weak and the beer is a touch sweet, but other than that it’s pretty good. 7/4/7/3/14 (3.5/5)

Near black, thin cream head. Intense aroma of toasted malt, espresso, chocolate, cinnamon, spicy hop and licorice. Tastes of mocha, maple, caramel are balanced with spicy hop. Smooth finish with a bit of an espresso linger.

The aroma is acidic and sour with molasses, vinegar, toasted malt, oatmeal, and chocolate. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin for the style. I have to say that I can’t stand the sourness of this beer and there isn’t much else about this beer that I like.

Bottle 1pt. 6fl.oz. @ home.
Clear dark black color with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, burnt, cofee, dark berry sour. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, light berry acidic - sour and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20081207]
