With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

Boonville must be a magical land, because I have yet to be let down by the beer from there. I know this bottle had some age on it, not sure how much but you could tell it’s had time to sit and change. Hearty aroma of molasses, chocolate, mild port wine and some good burnt malts. Black body with a quarter inch, swirling brown head and moderate lacing. Medium bodied and soft. Roasted nuts, burnt caramel and dry coffee flavors. Semi-sweet chocolate, floral hops and grainy oatmeal. Good stout, I’d like an extremely fresh bottle some day to compare.

22oz bottle from 16th St. Liquor. Poured obsidian black, small tan head with good lacing, aroma of malts, chocolate, coffee and some bitter. Coffee, roasted chocolate malts, a bit bitter, a bit sweet. There is a slightly sour after taste that is not unpleasant. Appreciate it even though I’m not a huge stout fan.

REALLY enjoyed this one. Nicely sweet. Lacking carbonation? A serious contender with Sam Smith’s Oatmeal. Could easily become a favorite.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s 12/6/09

Aroma: Aroma of burnt malts/oats, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, licorice
Appearance: Black color with a quickly dissipating tan head that leaves some lace
Flavor: Tastes of sweet malts, chocolaty, roasted flavor, oatmeal, light hop backing
Palate: This beer has a soft carbonation, an oily mouthfeel, and is a touch thin
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a pretty nice stout. I wouldn’t call it a great beer, but a very nice one with a nice mix of flavors and components.

on tap at the Saucer in Addison. Hard to judge aroma due to smoke in bar. bitterness throughout for me; didn’t notice the sweetness others stated. Definitely had an oatmeal or milky creaminess to it. Was better the more I drank - will tryagain and re rate..

Near black, thin tan head, light lacing. Aroma is lightly roasty, lots of sweet chocolate, some milk, licorice. Flavour is of chocolate, lots of milk, creamy, roasty, bitter, oatmeal. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, roasty, lightly bitter.

Probably kept this a little long. Thinned out a bit but I still love the flavour.

355ml bottle purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.
Opened on March 14, 2009.
No date.

Pours black with a small off-white head. The aroma is a bit sweet with hints of cream - rather light. The flavor is a hint of sour with some smoke and milk chocolate in the middle and a dry coffee finish.
