Excellent aroma of maple, hops, clay, grass, malt, licorice, and trees (cedar?). Poured a nice, cloudy hazel brown with an initial full head. Maybe the bottle is off, but the taste is mostly just bitter, with a scotche of the maple and malt. fidelis83 (729), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 31, 2009 Pours clear dark amber with a tall rocky tan head that has awesome retention and leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, tea, citrus, planty hops, dried date sweetness, a little toffee, and pecan nuttiness on the backend. Flavor starts off with caramel, tea, sweet almond, toffee, lots of very grainy flavors in the middle finish rounds off with lots of nutty notes, and planty hops with maybe a hint of citrus. Palate is thin to medium bodied with a creamy feel and a slightly lacking carbonation level, finishes kind of juicy. This is a really nice amber nothing too special overall but everything balances well and pulls together to make a really solid brew. I gotta say it looks really nice, though it does sort of explode with head when poured, showed no signs of breakdown or infection to me though... GG (1678), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2009 Anderson Valley seems to make a lot of beers that are really tasty. This is no different and thankfully I have access to a full array of their beers. I have to admit though, that I’ve stayed away from the Boont Amber and the Boont ESB, simply because the style bores me. With that being said, AV at least does it up right.
The beer pours out medium woody brown color with a medium sized head from a semi-aggressive pour. First impressions on the aroma is clearly malts. Lots and lots of malts with a bit of iced tea like popping up. Slightly hoppy with a twinge of fruit. Flavor carries a nearly identical profile as the aroma, except it’s very caramel-like in the flavor. Very easy to drink and it did go down very smoothly while watching the Lakers hang on to a Game 1 win over the Nuggets. nick76 (2694), Tampa, Florida, USA

The appearance is amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Overall a nice beer but not outstanding.
