Malty, caramel, spicy hops, light citrus, not a lot of aroma hops, but a very bitter finish. Too much alcohol for the style. manuchampions (105), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Confusion...the description on Ratebeer says it used to be called "Belk’s ESB"...well the bottle I just sampled is Belk’s and it’s from a new shipment of bottles.
Anyway...22oz bomber. Pours a slightly opaque golden colour with foamy head. Aroma is a wonderful balance of west coast hops and malt. Flavour is buscuity malt chased away quickly by an almost IPA level of hopiness that is both tart and has a hint of sweetness in the finish. Complex, very pleasing and frighteningly easy to drink. Appearance: Nice golden color with a thick white head. Thin lace in the glass.
Aroma: Malty with high alcohol flavors.
Taste: Bitter malts and hops
Overall: A nice clean beer. bsjay (54), Oregon, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 15, 2009 I haven’t tried this since they called it Belk’s ESB, but it was never my favorite of theirs. Bitter, but not terribly memorable or complex. Radek Kliber (3943), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada

Appearance: great mid amber look with extra large creamy snowy cap. Good lace shown. 4+ Nose: soft mineral hp character with gentle blend of malts. Clean and more like malty Bohemian than ESB. Flavor/Palate : Medium bodied. Malty lighter centre with more definite bitter hop walls. Soft with hop crispness. Earthy mineral finish with light fruity bitterness and hint of alcohol. Well composed smart ale. Brewmaster knows what he/she is doing.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 28, 2009 Sample glass from the brewery. Didn’t quite fit the category of a traditional ESB. Strong bitterness it was lacking. Nose of floral buttery hops, flavor was of the same. TheBeerGod (3150), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 13, 2009 Clouded amber underneath a rocky white head. Aroma is herbal and earthy hops, spicy notes, buttery malts, dough and caramel. taste is rather sweet with more earthy hops, light spicy notes, caramel, hint of toffee and citrus fruits. Body is medium with dense carbonation and light-medium overall. Carbonation gets a bit tingly in spots. Ends with more earthy hops, spicy hops, light floral notes, caramel, hint of honey, sweet malt, soft herbal notes and toffee. Not bad. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2009 I like Nik’s comment, definitely bitter but not really extra special by any stretch. This is however, clean and quite sessionable. Pours a kind of off kilter amber with a small white head. Bittermess prevails in the nose, very piney with some simple caramel malts backing up the bitterness.
