Good earthy leather malt nose with some noble hops in good abundance. Nice balance and clean caramel finish with some hop bitterness. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2005 Bottle from pjk33. Pours a nice clear amber color with a smallish white head. Aroma is clean and crisp, light hints of citrus, malt and just a tad buttery. It’s light and sweet in the beginning and the finish surprises with a nice hop presence. It ends slightly acidic and bitter. Overall a nice bitter. Odeed (1675), Bakersfield, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2005 this esb poured a totally see-through orange with a thick white head.as the head left a nice webbing formed around the glass.i got a bit of hops in the smell, although really it just smelled like "beer".the flavor was pretty average as well, malts, hops, biskets, and ice teaand a bit of metal at the end.the one thing this beer has going for it is the nice creamy mouthfeel.this is just another average brew from anderson valley. Tastink ist more like a tick IPA mit it’s hoppier flavorink. Zhe malten vas gut but vas too zoon kaput by zhe hoppen. Earlier Rating: 2/26/2005 Total Score: 3.4 Unique flowery aroma, nice lasting head with good lacing, traditional amber color of an ESB, First taste is malty with a creeping hoppiness, the rest of the beer is pretty much hop dominated and out of balance. Perhaps less boiling hops are in order. This is hopped more like an IPA. Maybe if they used Goldings it would taste more like an ESB. johnyvt (157), West Hollywood, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 27, 2005 Unremarkable golden/light amber color with an above-average white head. Smells of flowers. A perfectly decent taste, quick malty sweetness before the hops kick in. Lack of real bite makes it very drinkable, if not amazing on the palate. Bockyhorsey (2541), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Aftertaste of bitterness on the palate. It’s alright but nothing special. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 5, 2005 harsh esb. I prefer my bitters to be a little better balanced. Heavy on the hops, but not much on the malt. I’m kinda disappointed. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA
