There is a slight amount of chill haze present. Smells malty with a bit of sourness to it, maybe some sort of musty character as well. There is lots of caramel malt character in this beer. It ends with nice amount of bitterness, and there is a sharp bitterness at the beginning to. There is not too much hop flavor or aroma in this beer. Though as it warms up a definite hop flavor starts to assert itself. This is a nice solid beer, but it could use a few more dimension to it. I expected a bit more hop flavor from this brewery. There is a bit of grassy - hoppy notes to it though. Some biscuity flavors to this beer as well. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 31, 2003 This brew poured a small head of finely sized mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a fair lacing and a hazy light orange brown colored uncarbonated body. The aroma was hoppy as well as was its flavor. The mouthfeel had some bitterness to its otherwise smooth and bubbly feeling. hotstuff (3176), Indiana, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 20, 2003 Pours a orange-amber color, a little lighter than most bitters. The aroma is much more like a bitter, but the flavor is incredibly hoppy. Imagine a APA and a Fullers ESB getting together and having a kid, this could very well be the result. Beer pours an orangish amber and is slightly cloudy. Aroma is alive with hops. First taste is malty with a sudden, quick punch of hops. Bitterness dominates and lasts long after the first swallow. Great creamy palate as well. Superb! JPDIPSO (4930), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 1, 2003 Slightly hazed light amber color with a rocky cream colored head. Clean malt and hops aromas with a hint of english stone. Initial quaff yields what seem to be a sharp version. Smooth malt sweetness leads, but a sharp citric hops flavor takes over and drives this one home. Malt does show up very late in the aftertaste, too late for a true ESB. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2003 This is a yummy bitter! Liberal amounts of hops and a full body to match, very well balanced. The lacing was incredible and this just kept me coming back for more. Now if only their other beers showed this much thought. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA

Malty, fruity aroma with grapefruit and hint of vanilla. Sweet malty flavor with burly hops to balance and a bitter finish. Medium body, smooth easy texture and light carbonation. Another fine, easy drinking ale from Anderson Valley.
