Cotton candy and caramel sweet smell. Medium bodied with a smooth texture, mildly carbonated. Massively sweet, spicy flavor with hints of vanilla. Finishes with a belly warming alcohol tang.
Reminds me of a Belgian x-mas beer.06/2005 robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 4, 2008 Pours from bottle a deep, dark red. Pungent earthy aroma with a modest head. Very pleasant when it first hits your palate, but doesn’t have a great finish. The off flavors of the yeast are maybe a little bit too off. wetherel (1627), Encinitas, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Bought July 7th, 2007. Black wax on bottle. Small bubble head fades quickly and returns as a great microbubble ring thickly surrounding the edge of the red-brown liquid. Aroma is a bit strange. A hint of corriander, which appears to be hiding something, possibly a little DMS or the smallest hint of oxidation. The fine bubbles cling to the edge of the glass as I swirl. Leans a bit dry. There is a hint of malty taste, but not nearly as much as I would like. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2007 I actually bought this because of the name, but was pleasantly surprised at what was inside! Pours a beautiful deep copper color, with a creamy thick white head. Aroma is caramel and fruit. Lots of flavors going on here: coffee, hops, chocolate, brown sugar, and slight alcohol. Enjoyable. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Tap. Pours a dark red with no head. Very sweet. Enjoyed this offering, we don’t get many of these back East. 9% alchohol was nice. Started my beer tour with this and what an Opener. wickedpete (627), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Dark ruby color with small formation of head that disappears quickly. The aroma is typically belgian at first with yeast, and bubblegum aromas while showing a slightly detectable hoppiness but once the head recedes it shows a strong fruity sweetness similar to strawberry licorice. The flavor is somewhat sweet up front with some brown sugar and caramel plus some sweet fruit lending to a dry finish. epicurie (6), , California, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Pours a beautiful deep reddish brown with a thin sand colored head that quickly disappears. Not very carbonated. Fruity, sweet malty aroma that reminds me of Chimay Bleue. Strong, assertive flavors of roasty malt and dark fruit, with hint of coffee and chocolate, that leaves a sweet, flowery soy taste which lasts and lasts. Very spicy as well. The floral qualities of the flavor on this one, especially the finish, kinda surprised me - again I’m reminded of the Chimay Bleue. Mouthfeel is thin and smooth. The 9% alcohol is very apparent without being too boozy, and burns the tongue just a slight bit. All in all, a delightful beer, perhaps not of the same caliber as the true Trappist dubbels, but enjoyable in its own right.
