Bomber, Ruby appearance with a full foamy off-white head that relaxes to a thin covering into a tulip and Gouden Carolus chalice glass, effervescence, aroma of brown sugar-molasses sweetness with fruit, faint alcohol in the background, dark malt, some chocolate fragrances, taste is some sweetness mixed with dark malt and a touch of pepperiness towards the finish, faint alcohol in the background but hidden well for 9%, faint plum flavor mixed with other malt flavors emerge on the palate, has medium or more carbonation to make this feel bubbly on the palate, alcohol did not grow on the palate to destroy the malt flavors, when I took my first whiff of this I thought the alcohol would overcome the rest of the flavors but not at all, I enjoyed this more than their triple, not bad at all.

10/27/07 From the bottle. Aroma is malt sweetness forward with slightly fruity yeast esters and a very low hop character. Appearance is copper with a low tan head with good lacing and legs. Flavor is malt sweetness forward with a slightly grainy tone. Yeast character is strong, with a phenolic pepper bite and low fruity esters. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a medium carb bite. Overall, this is quite good and easy drinking for the style, but could use more esters and phenols for complexity.

Rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. Dark red color with a decent sized beige head. Complex aroma. Toffee, brown sugar, red fruits, dough, lots of plum, cherries, and grain. Strong and wonderful. Plum chocolate, roasted, toffee, bread, and charred flavors. Touch of alcohol are really nice in this beautiful cacophony of flavors. Very nice definitely one of the two best of the night.

Pours russet brown with a small off-white head. Plummy aroma with interesting toffee and leather undertones. The leather comes through more as the beer warms. Big cola notes in the flavor along with some musty plum. There’s a good deal of alcohol sweetness, which doesn’t completely dry out at the end. Warming brings out a good bit of toffee. Solid brew.

Rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. Dark brown with some red, small creamy beige head. Plum, alc, not strong aroma. Roasty, complex, dark fruit, brown sugar, alc. Thin to medium bodied. Best so far, love the flavor and appearance.

Caramel malt nose with a clear dark mahogany and small offwhite head. Looks great, smells pretty good. flavor is Belgian-y, dark fruits and sugary stuff in there. pretty malty, highly alcoholic but not really evident in the flavor. Some detected in the aroma. this is a nice sipper! Lots of alcohol warmth comes to get you later. I think it’s probably too sweet. I like when American breweries make this kind of Belgian style stuff so we can enjoy it without it being a huge pain in the ass. By the time I finish this i’m going to be DRUNK.

Honey, caramel malt aroma with a little spice. Pours brown with a thin white head. Sweet malts, caramel and molasses, there’s a good spiciness that runs throughout, overall malty with dark fruit flavors, figs, dates, brown sugar, very smooth with a nice bite towards the end.

Pour nice and brown with a tan head but the aroma was lacking almost had to snuff it up my nose to get any thing. Great smooth taste with a good balance with the high alcohol. I did like this one.
