Commercial Description:
Brewed at the Anderson Valley Brewing Company by David Keene, the owner of the legendary San Francisco beer-bar, Toronado, this double-style ale features the huge fruit flavors combined with yeastiness and spiciness that Belgian ales are known for.

A rich, dark brown color with ruby highlights that are transluscent and a tan, thick head that collapses slowly. The aroma is somewhat unidimensional, dark candy sugar and a yeasty spiciness. Flavor is not very good. The palate is ok, though too sweet. But there is actually an offensive, rubber-like flavor in this beer and the alcohol overwhelms the palate. A bad beer from one of my favorite craft brrewers.

Dark Brown/Red Coloring with Sandy Head. Rich Sweet Bread Dough. Dried Fruit, Dark Bread. Very Rich Flavor. Dry Dry Aftertaste. Rerated April 2, 2007. Dark Bread, Fruits and Spices on the Nose. Quite Nice.Alot of Yeasty Notes...Bready, Lightly Earthed..Fair Amount of Spices Throughout with Some Fruit as well. Clean Lightly Dry Ending. Not a Hearty Dubbel at All...Leans Closer to a Tripel or Sour Brown But Very Nice in Any Respect.

Bomber bottle. Poured a hazy dark brown with an average creamy off-white head that was lasting. Heavy complex sweet aroma. Medium body with smooth texture. Good bitter sweet flavor with an average finish with small alcohol bite.

Slightly smokey and dry aroma - hints of caramel, barely a chocolate note. The flavor is very similar to the aroma: dry and not sweet at all. The alcohol is well-hidden, and this beer isn’t bad, but generally quite average for a dubbel, in my humble opinion.

A pretty authentic version of the style - nice dark amber color with a thick ring of tan lacing - aroma of figs, dates, brown sugar, port and slight alcohol - surprisingly dry, but with enough sweetness/malt to keep it from being overly so - somewhat vinous, with soft carbonation - brown sugar and raisins come in late, along with some caramel malt - just enough alcohol burn to remind you of its strength - pretty nicely done.

This pretty waxed capped bottled brew poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a semi transparent very carbonated dark caramel red colored body and a good lacing. It had a sweet malty raisin aroma. The mouth feel was tingly from start to finish with a smooth sweet caramel malt hop flavor. Over-all, it was very good and I really appreciated this style and flavor. Good job AV!

Poured brown with a golden tint and thin off-white head. Aroma was sweet and fruity with some grape, bubble gum, and prune. Starts with malt and fruit and closes with some roast. Semi-dry.

Dark brown color with a thin head. The aroma and taste are pretty much the same mixture of rich malt and chocolate with caramel lacing. Some fruit on the end.
