CaptainCougar (4663), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 26, 2005 Pours a dark copper mahogany with a thin wispy light tan head. Nice, sweet bready Belgian yeasty, dark caramel and dark fruity aroma. Starts with a bready malty sweetness turning more dry, lightly earthy and semi-tart toward the mild chocolatey finish. A nicely balanced and authentic Belgian dubbel.
fiulijn (5880), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Oct 5, 2008 Bottle from Lee’s Discount Liquor, Las Vegas Dark mahogany color, big thick head. It has a good caramel and chocolate aroma, strong body, medium sweetness, chocolate flavor, caramel of course, correct bitterness, alcohol warmth at the end. Maybe a bit too strong, correctly brewed, but without emotions, monodimensional and boring after a few sips. v8powered (25), , Nevada, USA Sep 27, 2008 Good Dubbel. Virtually no head on the beer. Dark brown color. Slightly nutty/fruity aroma. Carmel maltyness with a slight alcohol aftertaste. Nutty flavor mixed with carmel, cane sugar, slight fruit and alcohol. Finish is a little different which sets it apart from some of the true dubbels. Nice beer for an American dubbel. BOLTZ7555 (522), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Sep 19, 2008 Mostly caramel maltiness in this one...on the nose and tongue. Brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts and yeast are also there. Can definitely sense the alcohol but not so much in the flavor itself, but in how it warms. Clear gem-quality garnet in color with a light khaki foam that diminishes into a small ring around the rim. Decent lacing. Good brew for the price. esjaygee (808), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Sep 16, 2008 I like this one better than it’s big brother, the Trippel. Clear brown with no head. Aroma of fruit, toffee, nuts and caramel. Taste of toffee, nuts, alcohol, fruit, brown sugar. Nutty aftertaste with some mild alcohol burn. Falls just a notch below the top tier dubbels. slimchill (656), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 12, 2008 Bottle. Nose is buttery and spicy with light alcohol and caramel notes. Dark amber with a thin bubbly head. Sweet with lots of ester character and a lightly tart finish. Clean thickish palate.
