Commercial Description:
The brewers of Anderson Valley had to conjure the High Priestess of Fermentation to help them formulate and create this rare hand-crafted elixer. It is luxuriant, smooth, more that a little wild, and at 10% alcohol, it's bound to raise your spirits. Open the Bottle and greet the High Priestess. You are worthy.

Nov. 2006 - Another solid offering from AV. Pour was dark brown, nice two fingered head and decent lacing. Aroma and flavor was dark fruit, caramel and raisins. Nice smooth mouthfeel...a wonderful beer for my Thanksgiving dinner!

Tap: Copper color with a small head. Spicy aromas of yeast, alcohol and a little pumpkin. The flavor is pretty strong, definitely better with food. Sweet. You can definitely feel the higher alcohol %. Not bad, not my favorite style.

Sampled blind at "Better Know a Style: Abbey Tripel" tasting. Clear darker amber with small off-white head. Aroma is aged alc with slight dough. Flavor is very doughy with alc, malty, caramel, bourbon, green/red apple. Medium to full body and creamy. I enjoyed this beer but more because it was out of style than anything else.

Bought July 7th, 2007. 6 months old. Thick gold wax capped. Amber color with no head and light carbonation. Some melanoidins. Nice mellowed flavor from some aging. No oxidation. Leans sweet. No hop bitterness. Easy to drink.

As a priest, I’m a bit biased to pseudo-monks on beer bottles. But I do like this beer. It is flowery and joyous, but solid in delivery. BDs III starts a tad on the sweet side, but it rewards you with richness and depth as you proceed. The nose is subdued, slightly spicy, with cream and spark, but you can tell that that a party lies beneath. It starts as a solid beer that becomes more like a wine, probably due to its high ABV. In any case, this is a favorite of mine for a quick pick up at the Co-Op (one bottle, two tops) for an evening of holy contemplation and generally good cheer.

Clear amber color with no head. Light smell of apples, spicey yeasts. Good carbonation despite the complete lack of a head, medium bodied. Has a raw, sweet and spicey flavor of apples, dark pit fruits and yeast. Not much of an alcohol burn here thankfully. For the Tripel style this brew is way out in left field. Probably worth a try but not a brew I’ll revisit any time soon. 08/2006

Sampled blind at "Better Know a Style: Abbey Tripel". Pours a bourbon color with an off-white head. Aged caramel malts in the nose. Older caramel malts in the flavors. Grains, red fruit, alcohol. Tastes like a strong aged amber with too much alcohol.
