Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. A malty brew w/ big fruit. Flavors of ripe banana, fresh apples, vanilla, pear, melon rind, angel food cake, peach pit. Finish is bittered w/ a peach pit style. I catch a glimpse of alcohol that gives it a brandy feel. Overall: complex, fruity, almost Belgian but not quite. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 8, 2006 From the tap, this beer poured a slightly hazy golden apricot colored beverage with a thin off-white mostly lasting head that left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was quite fruity as most Belgian ales should be with a nice spicy, pepper backdrop and a subtle malt characteer. The body was full with soft carbonation and a wonderful thick oily texture. The flavor started off sweet and fruity and as it matured on the palet the pepper and other spices came out. There was also a wonderful alcohol warmth through the long finish hayduke (1677), Eureka, California, USA

Big nose of fruit nd citrus. Very rich in the mouth. Slightly sweet. Excellent beer but then it as stong competition for this style. But it should be rated against all other beers, not just Belgiums, and so comes off pretty darn good. Note: I brought home another bottle of this to compare to the New Belgium Abbey Tripel. To tell the truth, while they are not quite the same, I cannot say I like one better than the other. Rating stays the same. This barley wine tasted so fine after a Hop Ottin pint. It was better the second time around. Breakfast of Champions! and then some. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Golden amber body, small fading white head. Dry alcoholic yeast in the aroma trumps the sweet malt. (6+) Bit of caramel notes and dry malty tripel character. Alcohol is warming but not over the top considering its 10%! Average palate. Good but lacks depth. AlabastorJones (769), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 8, 2006 sweet spicey banana fizzle nose, yeasty, clear copper color, no head, sweet and brown sugary, 10% alcohol is there, no doubt about that, finishes like a mixed drink, not really a good thing, but not really a bad beer, thanks breddah david cstuartj (326), Washington, USA
