Aroma of grapefruit and orange. Sweet initial flavor, malty but with good hop presence. Would drink it again, many times over. Goodgrief (1153), Middletown, Delaware, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 23, 2008 April 2007 - Beer pours dark honey color, little head or lacing. Aroma of honey and flowers. The flavor was sweet sugary malts and floral hops. Not overly bitter, not overly complex. Ok, but one of the more forgettable AV beers. RedSox2004 (356), Pacific Palisades, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Poured hazy but cleared up quickly. Rich amber color with a generous head that dissipated into a nice white cover. Aroma was dominated by the hops with citrus and pine undertones. Wonderful hoppy flavors with just a hint of sweet malts to give it a great balance. The alcohol is evident but not frightening. No need to stop at one. Medium bodied, nice carbonation and a bit of an oily feel to it. A really enjoyable example of the style. If I can’t have a Stone, this is not a bad second choice. 502Flavors (621), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 20, 2008 Updated: Jul 13, 200812oz bottle. Great appearance; dark caramel color like a mix between molasses and honey. Very hazy and dense looking, not a transparent gold like many other pales. Nice 2 finger off-white head that fades after a couple of minutes. Though it is a dense color, a fast carbonation is apparent if looked for. Unique aroma for a pale: not dominated by hops. That being said, there is a slight hint of hops that hides behind a rich aroma of molasses sweetness (no citrus or pine smells). Palate is thick and filling while smooth and rich. The flavor is very unique and bold for a pale ale. There is a definite hops present, but at no point is it dominating or biting. Although I love hops dominated beers, this does have a pleasant malt presence that steadies the hops, making the overall binary pretty complex. Smooth finish. Taste is very similar to the aroma, like thick molasses with a hint of caramel. troopie (892), USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2008 Bottle. Poured hazy amber with creamy white head. Faint floral aroma. Full hoppy flavour with malty edges, notes of pine. Lingering finish. This is not a hugely hopped IPA. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2008 Pours a very slightly fogged amber. Minimal creme head. Nose is thick and strong piney hops. Flavor is malty, but lacks any firm character to it. No style. No grace. Thick liquid feel. Good carbonation. Overall a good brew. Just doesn’t have any pizzazz. sickassmick (82), Concord, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 2, 2008 clear dark amber with big sticky head. beautiful looking beer. smells very nice. The flavor is very well rounded, speaking from an IPA lovers standpoint. Nothing really stand out about this beer other than it is done very well. I can’t really see anything wrong with this one. very nice beer. highibus (435), Mill Creek, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Clear copper color with 2 in head which dissapates after about 5 minutes. Very nice lacing. Aroma is spicy hops hint of orange/grapefruit. Flavor wrangles the tongue with a hop explosion. Great malty backbone to balance the incredible hops. Chewy palate which bodes well with the style of a great ipa. Really nice hoppy ipa. Need to have this more often.
