| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 15, 2009 A dependable IPA that has enough of a malt backbone to mask the bittering hops, letting the floral sneak through. Unfortunately I like a little more citrus hops up front, so this fails to be a great IPA in my book. daleharshman (207), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 11, 2009 12 ounce bottle available as single from Trader Joe’s. Pours a dark amber color with small off-white head. Aroma consists of sweet citrus and resiny hops. There’s also quite a lot of sweet malts in the nose as well -- somewhat reminiscent of a barley wine. Flavor has some (bitter) hops but the (sweet) malt is really there too. Not your normal West Coast IPA. There’s a certain harshness to the flavor as well as noticeable booze, both of which distract somewhat.

Then a nice balance of hops kicks in. well made. TampaBrew (907), Tampa, Florida, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 3, 2009 Pours a slightly hazy rust orange with a lasting white head. Aroma suggests that this beer could have been a little fresher, but there’s notes of pine, grapefruit, lemon zest, slight caramel, vanilla, and buttered toast. Tastes of caramel, sugar coated grapefruit, slight lemon, slight pine, cotten candy, toast. Finishes like sugar coated grapefruit, followed by sweet roasted chestnuts, burned toast, and ash. Quite bitter. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, and creamy, the mouthfeel is a winner. Some qualities seem a little odd, but overall this is good, and I’d have it again. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2009 Really enjoyable IPA. Nose is floral hops, but flavor is more complex, starting with hops up front (although less that might be expected from an IPA) and working through to a substantial malt backbone. Finish had notes of something sweet I was hard pressed to identify, but found delicious--will have to try again to see if I can pin it down!
